This may be a no-brainer but I figured I would throw it out here for opinions. Mr. Smith and I have a wedding in Boston this weekend and are driving up tomorrow around noon. Found out last night that my right brake light is out. Since I don't have enough time to get the car into the dealer before we leave tomorrow I am debating if we should rent a car? Before I rent a carI thought I would ask if anyone has any opinion on driving this distance without a brake light. I really don't want to be delayed should I get stopped by the cops on the way up or back home-what do you think the odds are I would get pulled over??? And can you get a ticket or would it just be a warning? Thoughts? Anyone??? Thanks! |

Take it to Napa Auto parts, buy a new light, change the bulb. The reason cars have those lights is to tell the driver behind you that you are slowing down. |

I would think that your biggest concern with a faulty brake light is that you might accidentally get rear-ended by someone on the highway who didn't realize you were braking, not that you might get pulled over. There are plenty of speed demons on this stretch of highway.

You could get pulled over, and get a ticket. Being from out-of-state, that could increase the chances of that. You can fix this yourself. Go to any auto parts store (such as Speed World/NAPA auto parts on Stuyvesant Avenue in Union), tell 'em what kind of car you have, and they can give you the correct replacement bulb. As for driving in Boston - those folks don't pay attention to brake lights, anyway. |

The bulb is easy to replace: either a phillips head or regular screw driver plus the replacement bulb is all that is needed. If you don't feel confident, get the bulb from Buy Wise or one of the places mentioned above and a 10 minute stop at a local service station will solve the problem. Likely, the local service stations have a replacement bulb in stock and you don't even need to go to a parts dealer. Anyway, this is a safety issue that doesn't require much time, anxiety or money. Get it fixed before you go. |

Just watch your speed in CT. Those police are ACT-IVE. |
