I'm looking to buy myself another acoustic. I guess I can be classified as an experienced novice, (living room party kind of player) but would love to get something nice and was thinking of something along the lines of a Martin D-28. Since it is obviously a big purchase I'll be checking it out at Sam Ash or Guitar Center in the next day or two, but I was wondering if any of you real players out there could make any other recommendations along the same price range. Also, if it helps, I'm partial to the deep rich sound like you get from one of those old Guilds. I currently play a Taylor 414 which is really nice, but a little too tinny for me. Any suggestions?

Thanks
TK

Try and find one with a rosewood body. I have a few acoustics, but my favorite is an old Yamaha with a rosewood body and spruce top, love its sound.

The Martin D28 is a great choice, but I've gone back and forth between Martin and Taylor, both are fine instruments.

musiciansfriend.com is a good resource,

Good luck, enjoy it!

Tom,

Get out of that "I Gave My Love a Cherry" mode...pull a Dylan at Newport and go electric.

Hank

You haven't lived until you've heard my acoustic rendition of "Highway to Hell".

Put Hejira in your ipod and consider taking a trip to Staten Island to visit Mandolin Brothers on Forest Ave.

It is the stringed instrument equivalent of a children's "please touch" museum. They have an incredible variety of vintage and new (mostly) acoustic guitars. Probably a 30-min drive from Maplewood. You might find an axe that you can't live without.

It is a tough call ove the internet.

I have played a D-28 that I LOVED... and then one I HATED.
Both had new strings, but a completely different feel.

Guitar Center on 22 had a used Martin that I fell in love with a few months ago.
I believe it was a D-28 as well...

Go play a few.
Although...
My father has a Yamaha... It is still the nicest accoustic I have ever played.

If you're looking for a deep, but rich tone...Gibson Hummingbird. For both strumming and fingerstyle, Gibson J45 Rosewood (I like Gibsons !)

I would recommend that you check out Loria's Music in Rahway. They are a great little store and take a personal interest in their customers. I don't know what price range you want but they have it all.

I like my Seagull electric acoustic that I bought there about 2 years ago. I also have an old Yamaha acoustic that I can't part with.

My husband has a Taylor acoustic (and a few different electrics) & it's beautiful to look at & has great sound - very rich & full. He likes Mannys in the city - it's owned by Sam Ash. He also likes guitar center on rt.22.

My dad has an Ovation & it's a great sounding guitar (but it's old - not sure if they are around?)

I have two Seagull acoustic guitars.
A 12 string and a six string.
Made in Canada.
Bought at Rondo's on Rt. 22.
