Can someone tell me where we can get the recycled rubber mulch for under our swingset? We just put up a rainbow set last week, ordered the cedar mulch, then dh decided the rubber might be better. We have a whole bunch of kids coming over for a party next weekend and I really want the swing set to be as safe as possible. Rainbow can deliver it in 4 weeks! I need it much sooner. Thanks! |

Consider how long you expect to have the swingset up. The rubber stuff will be there FOREVER and is not bio-degradable. Wood chips will create a more natural look, are bio-degradable and are probably cheaper, although you do need to add more each year. We have wood chips and have landscaped the play area into the rest of the yard. When we finally take down the set, it will be very easy to reclaim the area and grow grass. |

We hope to have the swing set at least 10 years so having it last would be a good thing, but I am reading some scary stuff about the rubber mulch that makes me want to reconsider. Thanks Lizzy! any other opinions? |

No opinion, but I'd love to piggyback a question... how deep do you typically put the mulch (either rubber or natural)? |

The recommended depth is 6-8 inches - for wood chips. Carol, I would really reconsider rubber mulch. We used "playchips" which are wood (maybe pine???) and are very springy and bouncy. We had the mulch installed last June and will not have to add more until next summer. If any chips get tracked onto the lawn, we just rake them up or let them biodegrade. Also, wood chips are cheaper. |

there is a thread about that topic somewhere, I remember posting a least one place in NJ where you can get it, and a link to some good info on it. |
