Pediatrics - my girlies See Drs Boodish, Mangru and Shih. I have found them to be a very good practice. They adore Dr Mangru!

Nancy Freundlich saw my husband a couple of yrs. ago and casually suggested that he might have a rare and barely treatable cancer. she traumatized us for a month of testing and was so off base. I'm not suggesting that it was so unreasonable for her to be looking at this diagnosis, but seems she could have handled this alot more professionally. I'd stay away from her. Gruenwald is great but very busy. Cotler and Voremberg also have great reputations.
Good luck.

For Pediatrics we see Drs. Commandatore & Gruenwald, but Dr. Voremberg is great (if she wasn't the mom of one of my son's friends, we'd go to her but at almost 7 the "she's his mom- ick factor" is too high!)

I have several friends who see Dr. Dix and like her.

I used to go to Dr. Nalitt and her partner Dr. Frankel and found them to be very, very cold and rude. Check & see if you have Springfield Family Practice (Drs. Pozner, Doubek, Snyder) under Family Practice - they are a great group.

We go to Dr. Susan Cantor for general matters and can recommend her.

I go to Dr. Jacqueline Dix for female matters. She performed my hysterectomy-all went very well.I like her alot.

pediatrician.
we love dr. commandatore (female doctor for our daughter). it's a very well-run practice. there's always someone on call and each doctor works late one day a week for those of us who work in the city...very convenient.

I had a negative experience with Dr Dix. I found her to be abrubt to the point of borderline rude. She was dismissive of my concerns and made light of my questions. I also think the office is rather shabby. Dirty carpet and couches in waiting area. A bit run-down in exam rooms.

We've gone to the Boodish practice for years, and I agree about Dr. Mangru. However, we just met Dr. Shih last week, and she was also delightful.

I agree with Claudia's assessment of the commandatore practice (which also includes, from your list, Alexander, Detweiller, Sterio, and Gruenwald). We see Dr. Alexander, she's very warm and patient and is not only good about giving useful information but on my first visit with my daughter she wrote things down for me which made it much easier to share with my partner later that day (my daughter was 9 months, so there were a lot of things like what foods not to eat). The staff is very friendly and the office is very well run.

We have used the Gruenwald (Sterio, Comandatore, etc.) pediatric practice for 15+ years and have obviously been happy with them.

I very highly recommend Susan Cantor. Sadly, when our insurance changed she was not on the new list.

Second the recommendation for Pozner/Doubek practice (I believe they work with both adults and children).

Second the caution for Nalitt and partner; in addition I had problems working with their staff.

I PL'ed you.

I forgot to mention that I currently go to Dr. Nalitt and Dr. Frankel and, although I think Dr. Frankel is very well informed, I am very disappointed with their bedside manner and their stonewall of a receptionist.

"You are sick?" she asks, "OK we have something 10 days from now..."
"You are dizzy?"she asks, "Well, we have something tomorrow night at 8:00PM but I will not give you the appointment unless you prove someone else will drive you."
"You have a migraine? Well you haven't had a physical in 13 months therefore we need to schedule a full exam first....those take quite a long time to perform. The soonest appointment for that is in 2 weeks"

These are REAL quotes from their receptioninst. There are many more.
I finally burst into tears on the phone once and they saw me in 10 minutes...the nerve.

Add to that my favorite from Dr. Nalitt, "You drink a glass of wine with dinner every night?" (OK sometimes it is scotch)
"Well recent reports have indicated that this is the sign of true alcoholism."
(Forget about the bone density issues I came in to discuss.)

When I realized that the entire countries of both France and Italy "Showed signs of true alcholism" I decided she should blow it out her shorts.....

I feel better now!

Dr. Comandatore has the absolute right demeanor for our family.

Not on your list, but as a general physician, we've been happy with Dr. Thomas Jackson in Summit for many years...also has the right professional demeanor that suits us best. I have known a number of men and women from Maplewood who have used him for some time now.

I'd also like to weigh in on Dr. Nalitt. I brought my very bright, competent, English-speaking baby sitter to see Dr. Nalitt because Nalitt was the only nearby doctor on her health plan. My babysitter had a recurrng problem with a cyst (she'd had it taken care of previously in Brazil). My babysitter assembled and brought with her lab reports and notes from previous doctors, writen in English. Nalitt refused to look at the records, told my babysitter -- quite rudely -- that she had a sexually transmitted disease (she did not), and accused her or her husband of having an affair.

I went to Dr. Nalitt once... just once... that was enough. She wanted to put me on steroids, which I've taken many times over the years and which don't have the most fun side effects. I asked if there were any that had better side effects or if there was something else I could try. She said, in a very nasty tone of voice, "FINE, then." and walked out and did not prescribe me ANYTHING. Unreal. I'm sick enough for steroids, I ask a question and suddenly you withold a prescription. Good thing i found another doc in a hurry. I think I could have sued. I just wanted to know if there was another option.

Unfortunately, My new favorite doctors aren't on your list. I have heard great things about Dr. Boodish, too.

Good luck!

I wasn't going to post about the Nalitt/Frankel practice as I felt uneasy doing it, but seeing other "not nice" posts, then here we go...

I went once.. That was enough.

I went there feeling unwell, hard to breathe and general out of sorts and had felt that way for about a month, but with two young children time has just got away from me until I really couldn't put it off anymore. I forget which one it was I saw (I have since been told they are both pretty much equally this way)

The doc walked in and straight away said put the gown on. No hello, I am etc...

After a 10 second "check" she told me that I was overweight and to take antacids. I told her that none of that was relevant to why I was there. She repeated you are overweight and take antacids for the heartburn (I didn't have any)

I left in tears, and struggled on with the way I was feeling for another month.

I then went to another doc. I had pneumonia. My breathing was so bad after being tested that they tried to convince me go to to hospital, they had me on the nebuliser 3 times in the surgery, and prescribed very high powered antibiotics, which required a second course to knock the infection out. They couldn't believe that I had been walking around that way.

I have 4 friends who have also been there "once" each one was told to lose weight and that would solve all their problems...

How any woman could treat another female with the disrespect and contempt shown is beyond me. Take the "female" out of the equation, how a doctor could treat multiple patients like this beggars belief.

I now see Dr Sherman at Summmit Medical Group (Are they not on your plan?) and the difference is incredible. Caring, very professional etc, and follow up phone calls to see how you are.

Wow, this has got me all riled up again!!!!

Incredible stories about Nalitt (I hesitate to respect her with the title of "Dr."). This is the first time I am learning that my babysitter's experience was not an isolated one. My ob/gyn once told me something about doctors that I have never forgotten. She said, "To be a good doctor, you first have to be a good person." I don't think Nalitt passes this test.

Supposedly the dread Dr. N is my doctor, but I never seem to get around to going.... Now I think that I know why! So, maybe I will switch too.
However, there have been few other PCP recommendations offered here, and I find few when I search. If you love your doctor, please let us know!

Michael Durante - great doc. My husband and I have been going to him almost nine years ago and like him a lot. He takes his time with you and really listens, and respects our intelligence.

Donald Cotler - great FABULOUS pediatrician. I couldn't say enough nice things about him. Rave review here. He is very, very big on having the KID say what is wrong first, rather than the parent (though of course he listens to us, too). But I think that's a great way to introduce a child to the concept of being involved in her own medical care. When my child has gone to him she always walks away with a little bit of a basic anatomy / biology lesson as well as her treatment. Plus - and this is great - he has open walk-ins first thing in the morning for sick kids. Which is a really great thing for working parents.
