Busted! She was caught red-handed two successive nights on the general counsel's OTC spy camera. Xeroxing anything from my desk that wasn't nailed down. She's still here, but probably not for long. Whew. But she doesn't know I know. Now I'm just looking for weird and/or scary stuff to leave around. I've used a combo of all previous ideas. Yesterday I left a random quote from Yoda, just for fun. I've left messages about "meetings" with every important person in the organization. Drinks out. Just thought I'd offer closure for last weeks participants (and I'd still welcome any other ideas as this ongoing...)

You have to give us more details of The Trap. Take a shoe box. Cut along all four sides so that the box can be flattened out but do not cut away from the bottom. Do not take the sides off. Tie a large string around the box so that the sides stay together. Fill with marbles. Put the top back on the box. Put an intriguing note on it, i.e., As per our conversation, here it is. Enjoy! Place box on your office chair or the edge of your desk. Carefully remove string. When you come in the next day, you'll have to pick up a bunch of marbles, but it will be worth it. Especially if it's on the spy cam. |

Greenetree, Seriously, that is brilliant. For the trap, I didn't even need one since she evidently makes it a habit to swing by my desk after hours and poke around on a nightly basis, including making frequent trips to the copy machine with any and all notes and documents. We just set up a motion sensored camera in the corner of my desk to film it. Some notes were real, like people's phone numbers, and once I knew she was doing it, I just made some stuff up to freak her out. Love the marble idea! Love it. Thanks, bklyngirl, it's been real hard getting stuff done. |

Okay, I have the box (empty box of letterhead). Logistically speaking, not sure where I'm getting marbles. Smarty, what around the office could I release to good effect? I'm seriously considering this. |

Background: Our boss has been let go. There is an announced "restructuring" going on. I'm in the loop. She is not (for good reason, she is unfathomably annoying and also terrible at her job). It appears she is trying to either 1) gather what I know based on an assortment of post-it notes I leave on my desk or 2) get me in trouble somehow (but I'm clean as a whistle!) That is she photocopying this stuff remains a mystery. |

Brilliant. Duder, what I find odd and disturbing is that she feels that copying stuff from your desk is, well, OK. I would have a serious ethical problem with that. No wonder this woman is on her way out. If anything, she can now be dismissed for cause, I would imagine. |

Unfortunately, I'm not surprised. This is consistent with some of the crap she's pulled. She was the boss's lackey, and protected as such. Not anymore. A long six months is coming to an end...the marble tidal wave will be a great conclusion (I suddently feel like a cast member of The Office.) |

I mention marbles because they will make noise, roll all over the place and are heavy enough to push the sides of the box open once the lid is off. They are also small enough that you don't need a huge box to have lots of them going everywhere. I thought about paper clips, but they are too light. You don't want to use anything harmful or too out of line because then you won't be squeaky clean. You don't want to use anything with a flat surface becaus it won't be guaranteed to fall out of the box. You can probably get marbles at Toys-R-Us. I seriously worry myself sometimes. |

On the milder side, you could leave a stack of documents clipped together with a note on top addressed to her: Dear BrassBalls, I had to run and catch the 5:09. Would you mind making 6 collated copies of this? I figured that since you are copying things anyway, this wouldn't be a big deal. Thanks! See you tomorrow, Duder |

Well, I had it all ready to go. A box chock full of stuff I could find laying around the office, with the front flap ready to break away for an avalance of office supplies spilling over the desk and onto the floor. Note on the top of the box that said "Material for Proposal to New VP." Spy camera on. But she didn't take the bait. Looks like I'll have to settle for her just getting canned, and not humiliated. Damn. (I think she might have known about the camera.) Thanks, all, especially Greenetree. You are a master of effectively cunning childish pranks!

Duder- it may have been too obvious. A cow-orker (damn you, Reingold) would be likely to leave a box on your seat or edge of your desk. Materials for a new exec you'd be more likely to put in a less obvious place. Unless it were a trap. You can always try the "please copy" memo if she doesn't take the box bait tonight. Hey, maybe she had somewhere to be last night & tonight is showtime. |
