Hi there- we are still on a house hunt and I am reluctantly opening our search area to include South Orange (I prefer MW myself). I have never even heard of this school. Any info would help. Thanks! |

My kids aren't old enough to go there yet, but since it's brand new to you this might be a good place to start: http://www.southmountain.somsd.k12.nj.us |

AWESOME school! My son started school at the Annex (which is K-1) as a Kindergartner -- was at South Mountain (the main school, 2 - 5) through most of this 4th grade year (he's now in private school b/c of a learning disability). Teriffic teachers -- enthusiastic, motivated, creative. I am very enthusiastic about the school -- it was a tough decision to leave. You'll see that the school consistently performs (in terms of testing) at the top (among the top) of elementary schools in the district. Great PTA, lots of parent involvement and teachers are wonderful. If you follow these forums, the school is a bit unsettled in terms of administration. Long standing, well loved principal, died 2 (3?) years ago. There was an interim for a year or so, and then the current principal -- who is about to leave. Excellent school -- Pete |

I've heard good things from my neighbors, but haven't investigated fully. Don't be afraid of South Orange. I was hesitant in my search about a year ago, but have come to like it more than MW. 1) Its more convenient 2) The train service is more frequent 3) South Orange Performing Arts Center is going to be an enormous boost to the community. Frankly, I wasn't overly analytical in my search for a home. I took the plunge and found MW/SO by chance and lucked out with a fantastic realtor with a lot of energy in the form of Ellen Decicco from Burgdorff Maplewood. |

Some Maplewood addresses are in the South Mtn sending area. I believe Maplewood streets north of New England Road to the SO border send their children to South Mtn. |

South Mountain is the school from Maplewood addresses such as Lewis Drive, Tower Drive, Ridgewood Road, Crestwood Drive, Wyoming, Cedar Lane, Washington Park, New England. There's currently houses for sale through Burgdorff in Crestwood and Washington. Both quiet friendly blocks.

In Maplewood South Mountain is the school as far over as Sunset Terrace; Marshall/Jefferson begins at Collinwood Rd. |
