With impending construction and resulting dust and chaos, is it better to completely remove my computer from the environment, or can I leave it and cover it? I've heard that computers can be tempermental and don't much like to be toyed with once they've settled in. I don't want to risk losing anything or screwing the damned thing up. I'm afraid storing it in the POD with the rest of the furniture and stuff might not be a great idea. What would you recommend. |

MeAnd, If you store it in the POD then how will you access MOL?!? I would just cover it, unless you really don't need to use it, or if its current location could be compromised with said construction. |

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You can't cover it and keep it running, of course... no offense, but you'd be amazed how many people do exactly that (and cook their computers). If you do a good job of plastic-wrapping the thing, you should be fine leaving it. If it were me, I'd probably move the computer to another part of the house. I understand what you mean by computers being tempermental, but in all honesty I don't think that should be your primary concern. Go ahead and move it, if you have the space. If you don't have the space to move it and need to cover it, use a good plastic and make sure you wrap it completely (once you turn it off, of course!). Don't forget to wrap/move the mouse, keyboard and monitor as well - dust inside the monitor could give you some heat-related failures. Good luck! PS - I hope you have backups of your information and files... move or no move, backups are ALWAYS critical. |
