I left my cell phone in my pocket, and it got washed. I took out the battery and am letting it dry. There is water visible under the LCD screens. It won't turn on. Is there a way to fix the phone? It is an LG VX 5200. Please Help!! |

I agree with lizziecat. I've seen phones go through much less water exposure and not live to tell the tale. |

I dropped a phone on the snow and immediately picked it up. Too late, it was dead. Yours was in the washing machine. It's time for you to check out the latest models! |

Sadly, these delicate little cell phones shrivel up and die at the merest suggestion of moisture. Do you have insurance on your phone? I have had insurance ever since my son took a phone of mine and deftly tore it in half. The good news is that there are some really, really cool models on the market now. Good luck!!! |

Call your provider even if you don't have insurance - Virgin replaced mine for half off (no insurance). |

Mine fell out of my pocket into a stream in the Reservation. Ended up buying a replacement on eBAY and then had it programmed using the phone by Verizon. |

Let it dry out overnight before giving up - you never know. My old Motorola flip phone fell off the vanity into...you guessed it...the toilet. Believe it or not, I took it apart and let it air out and it was fine the next day - although the display was never the same. Let the jokes begin! |

You have nothing to lose by trying to dry it out as Debbie suggested but it is probably a good idea to check out the new models as a back up plan. |

When I killed my Verizon phone a few years back, they sold me a replacement of the same model for $50. There were no programming or start up charges and I didn't have to buy a new travel charger for a new model so it was a much cheaper alternative to starting with a new model. |

Ebay is your best bet, once your ascertain that it really is a goner. LilMissLL dropped hers in the potty as well, but it dried out and continued working (albeit without the display). Your carrier will reprogram the new (ebay) phone to have your number. Just make sure the one you buy is from your carrier. |

If you sign a new contract, you may be able to upgrade your phone for free. Unless you have insurance on the phone you may have to pay the full price depending on your plan. It happened to me a few years ago, and $250.00 later.. |

When LittleK's Verizon LG phone stopped working last winter they replaced it for a $50 charge, after a fair amount of hassle. They supplied a rebuild phone, minus battery and cover and we had to return the old phone, minus battery and cover prepaid by Verizon. |

Can you hear me now ? "glug glug glug" Sorry, not so helpful. Check your plan, i believe some plans were offering insurance for replacement of phones. Kind of what Greentree said for about 50 bucks. I declined insurance on my plan but hey you may actually have it. |

I spilled a bottle of water in my purse (yes, super smart) and it soaked my motorola flip phone. I took it apart as much as I could and let it dry. It still didn't work. I recharged it. Still didn't work. Then, I switched batteries with my husband, it worked! So, I ordered a new battery for $9 online and my phone works fine now. So, I'd give it some time and try a few things unless you really depend on it and are desperate to replace it. |

Sadly, I heard on the news a little while ago that a young woman dropped her cell phone while walking above the Jersey City viaduct to the Holland Tunnel last night. She tried to retrieve it along the steep rocks, and fell to her death. |

Don't give up! My son left his in a pocket and it got washed. After a few days of drying out it worked fine. The LCD (or LED, whatever) was never quite the same though. |

Teen Falls to Her Death Trying to Retrieve Cellphone JERSEY CITY, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- Authorities on Wednesday said a teenage girl who fell at least 50 feet to her death the night before did so accidentally while trying to retrieve her cell phone. Officials said 17-year-old Danielle Venhorst's body was found at the base of a cliff on railroad tracks that run parallel to State Highway, also known as Route 139, just after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Photo taken from Venhorst's profile at My Space.com Her boyfriend, who was the only witness, told police the girl dropped her cell phone and fell while trying to get it. The two were each drinking a beer while talking on the cliff's ledge, which is not protected by a fence, said Edward DeFazio, Hudson County prosecutor. ``It appears to be an accident, like she just lost her balance,'' DeFazio said. Venhorst died of blunt force trauma ``consistent with a fall,'' he said. Venhorst's boyfriend was not under the influence of alcohol when police questioned him later. However, the investigation is ongoing, DeFazio said. |

After letting the phone dry out I can make and receive calls, but the main LCD screen is dead. The front LCD screen works fine. There is also water visible under the screens. |
