Mrs. p37 deserves a bit of pampering, so I wanted to treat her to a spa afternoon. There are a few places in NYC that she likes, but I'd like to find someplace local (if possible) and spare her having to think about the train schedule. Anyone have any suggestions on places to check out/avoid? So hoping his wife isn't checking MOL while she's out of town, -p37- |

I really like On the Side in Westfield. Not exactly "local" but not NYC...really nice place with great staff and services. http://otsnj.com/ |

The Spa at the Short Hills Hilton is pretty great. Lots of services, can have lunch poolside. Pricey though. |

Depasquale is wonderful. You can't beat the free cappucino bar. |

Spa at Short Hills is awesome. It isn't cheap, but one nice side benefit is sitting by the pool all day if you want, the hot tub, even having lunch brought to you at the pool. I have always gone as a huge 15+ person group, but I believe you can do this alone even if you only do one spa treatment. And of course, it's very close. |

Spa at Short Hills sucks. The people that do there are loud older women in groups and the pool gets crazy with kids sometimes. the last time i went the stereo in the trreatment room was broken so I had to listen to all the loud people in the hall while I got my massage.

Why did you go multiple times if it was so bad every time? |

The first time was a gift.. the day when the pool was crazy with kids. The second time was the worst...the stereo problem. both time loud older women.. I do like my therapist there. Plus, it seems like most places in this area are even worse. Do I have to go all the way back to CA for a decent spa experience?

If you're looking for a nice place to go for a facial and/or message, but not a whole day spa pampering experience, I love Bio Skin Care, above Jax Hair Salon on Millburn Avenue in Millburn just before Whole Foods. The women there are all lovely, it's a nice, quiet, small, intimate place that's very close by. It's not a place to go for "a day" though. They don't do food or drinks or any of that kind of stuff. |

Thanks everyone for your helpful recommendations! I did a little Googling on the suggested here and am going to give Depasquale a shot. Thanks again! And if a certain someone happens to see this, um...surprise? |

was the noise particularly worse because the women were 'older'? |

That's strange, Shawna. I've been there many times and have never experienced anything like that. Oh well. Everyone perceives "noise" differently. |

Ink- no. That's just who they were and not because they were women either. The older men were quiet. The 20 and thirty somethings were quiet. It's just the 40+ female crowd that were loud and not happy loud, but gossipy competitive loud. Noise. |

As a 45 y/o woman who is mature enough not to gossip, realizes who her friends are and doesn't worry about others, works hard and likes to treat herself on occassion, I have to say that nothing drives me more crazy than those younger moms who think that their adorable children belong everywhere. Why on earth should I have to listen to giggling, squealing and screeching or watch where I'm walking because of some unsupervised little brat running between tables in a restaurant because these girls don't think it's a problem to have their spoiled little brats out in a restaurant. They disrupt my peaceful lunch. Not that I would stereotype or anything. It's just who I am. |
