Today, the EZpass said, "Go, toll not paid" at 2 toll booths. Is this a sign that the battery is low, and if so, do I have to notify them, or is this now a violation? First problem in 6-7 years we have been in the system ... |

Are you sure you have money in the account? New car? New credit card you forgot to update? |

Mine died last year after about the same amount of time. You can order a new one on the Web site, and you have to send them the old one so that you're not charged the $20. And yes, you'll receive those notices for having not paid the toll. |

Mine failed a few years ago, they sent me a new one. I also received the notices, but I wrote to EZPASS with the # on the transponder, and they waived all penalties, and just charged me for the tolls. |

Mine seems to have died as well--the last two trips, it was not registering. But I haven't gotten any notices--I think that they take a photo of your license plate and if it is registered to your account, they just go ahead and charge you. The couple of times we did get notices, it was with a transponder that was working but we realized that we had not updated our license plate information after we moved. Still, I guess I should get my transponder replaced. |

It takes a couple of weeks before they start dunning you for the toll and fine. The fine is waived if you furnish them with an account and transponder #. And yes, they will send you a new transponder. Go to E-Zpass.com and get the phone number for the Newark office. Call and ask for a new transponder.

I got my new EZPass statement today and they had charged me the normal tolls for my trip 3 weeks ago when the transponder was not registering. So they must have picked up my info from my license plate. I'm sort of surprised that they haven't contacted me about the transponder. |

I had the battery die and they send a new box, free of charge. They also sent an additional one for our second car and didn't charge us. They do run the license plates through and charge your account if you have an EZPass. We've only been sent notices on the following occasions: -when we bought a new car and I forgot to add it to the account -when it didn't read on an out-of-state toll (and this includes NY!- when I called about it, the customer svc person said the two EZPass systems don't share info- which I find crazy since there's so many people that commute to in/out of NY/NJ!) That was about 2 years ago, so maybe they've fixed it since then. |

I think they must have fixed that, since I drove from MD to NJ and back and they picked up all the tolls. |

Thanks everyone ! I called and they said that it is indeed the battery, so I can either go to the EZPass office in Newark, turn in my transponders for new ones, or have 4 new ones sent to me, charging $25. apiece, which will be credited to my account once I send the old ones back. It is convenient for me to stop in Newark, so that is my choice. |
