On the three strikes you're out theory, I'm giving up on the grooming service off Watchung Ave. in Montclair. Can anyone recommend a very experienced groomer in our area that does a thorough job without completely traumatizing the dog (and owner)? The dog is 13 yrs. old and needs someone who really knows what they're doing. Thanks!

Lisa at Puppy Love on Springfield is fabulous. She absolutely loves, loves, loves all animals and it really shows. I was there recently picking up my big fuzzy kitty who gets shaved every summer, and she was kissing some little puppy she was working on who was getting angry with her because she was trying to cut the hair around his face.

I'm sure if you discuss your pets specific needs with her, she'll be extra careful and compassionate!

I like to give her an extra big tip when I'm there, because she's so wonderful, and also because she's constantly rescuing animals (and/or having them dumped at her door), and she pays out of her own pocket to care for all of them.

I agree about Puppy Love. We've had very good experiences there.

Puppy Love is the best! They really do love animals. You'll witness it when you drop your pet off.

No advice on where to go, but definitely DON'T go to the Petco in the Essex Green shopping center. I was there once and an employee came out of the grooming room to complain to her friend at one of the registers about how terrible one of the other groomers was, and how she had no business grooming anybody or anything. It was in a very gossipy way and i thought it was highly unprofessional for her to be doing that in front of customers, so that says something about her judgement in general. But i was pretty thankful that i didn't have a dog in there getting groomed at the time.

ink, just my 2cents...

what kind of dog is it? not every groomer can do every dog justice. is he a purebred? does he require a special kind of grooming like a hand-stripping? not every groomer knows what they are doing with every breed. a dog's coat can be ruined by a general groomer if they don't know what kind of grooming the breed requires.

Another vote for Lisa at Puppy Love. Tell her that Rob from JAC sent you.

I think Puppy Love can do a good job depending on the breed. We took our puppy to Puppy Love for her 1st cut (almost 2 years ago now )and they kept her for over 8 hours and completely shaved her. They did call us to inform us they'd have to shave her in the "sensitive areas"- armpits, etc, but in the end, they shaved her ALL OVER! We didn't even recognize our little girl when we picked her up.

Since then we go to the Grooming Room (Main St in Millburn) where they do an incredible job w/ her. Ask for Carol, the owner. She is awesome.
