You know, the park with the "red tubes" on Walton, near SO/M border.
They've been there a couple days. Real cute. There's a house that faces onto Maplewood Ave right by Walton, that seems to be a "cat house" (a couple of cats belong there) and she (mom) may just be a denizen too. However, it seems strange that one would let such little guys out all the time.

Do you think I should visit the house and ask if the kittens are theirs?

(PS, I hate doing this kind of thing).

A responsible cat owner would not let a mom be outside....she may be feral. If homeowner says no, then the family needs to be rounded up and taken to JAC...if they will take them. I believe from what I have read elsewhere here that they are full of cats/kittens. One of the heartbreaking aspects of spring and summer.

That playground just happens to be next to the JAC shelter. I wonder if some well-meaning person dropped off the then-pregnant mother or family, hoping that they would find their way to the shelter.

Contact Animal Control from Maplewood or South Orange, depending the town, and they will pick them up and take them to JAC. JAC doesn't usually accept animals from individuals.

it's my understanding that the facility behind this park only deals with dogs. i would just call first and double check.

the park is on walton not far from where maplewood ave merges into walton ( a yield sign i believe is at that junction) it's on walton between audley and lenox.

JAC deals with dogs, cats, ferrets, and other animals. I had been with them eight years. But the Animal Control Officer must bring in the animals.

The park is called Farrell Field.

All of those cats at that house are "supposedly" taken care of (fed) by the house owners. However, responsible - they're not - and have continued to let them breed for years. I would say, most of the cats are not spayed or neutered. Friends who live several houses away from them have, at one time or another, trapped a few and had them fixed. Then they either found homes for them or released them back into the colony. I suspect the mom and kittens are from that inbred cat family. Don't really know how someone like that can be approached... People For Animals in Hillside has low cost spay/neuter. Some people just don't get it! It's sad.

Anotherkittie:

The park is on Walton in SOuth Orange, near where Maplewood Ave intersects with it. Take Maplewood past Parker Ave, right on Walton, and you're there! It's nice and shady in the morning, hours, and has tennis courts and a field.

If these people are creating a public nuisance with a yard full of intact cats multiplying and straying, Animal Control should be notified.

The park is named Farrell Field, but considering the cat situation, maybe it should be "Feral Field".
