I just opened up my itunes. For some reason, a playlist titled "Kibret Boreland's Music" is there. It contains almost 13GB of songs I don't own (or even like). It's not my wife's tunes. Is someone hacking into my mac and storing their stuff? That doesn't make much sense, but I can't think of anything else to explain it. How do I delete it? Here's a screen shot. The offending playlist is highlighted. Notice the eject icon on the right? Huh?
For the record, I'm running the most recent Mac OS. My firewall is turned on. |

Hmmm That's strange John! Those songs look like rap. Ick! Is there any chance a babysitter used your computer without permission? |

Someone either on your network or an adjacent network is sharing songs via iTunes. If you have a wireless network, it is possible that a neighbor is using your wireless connection for Internet access. What you're seeing is normal if you had multiple people on the same network sharing songs via iTunes. I used to listen to songs on a friends' laptop all the time at work this way. I think there's a way on a Mac to either find the IP address of the other person, or to at least get more info about them. I don't think the same tools are available on a PC. |

iTunes uses a type of networking called Bonjour to automatically find and connect to other iTunes users on the network, so you can all listen to each other's files (doesn't allow copying though). So, my guess is that Rastro is right. Someone (one of your neighbors) whose computer's name is Kibret Boreland is using your wireless network. If that's right, it means he can also see your iTunes Library. Do you in fact use a wireless network? Most likely, that music is NOT stored on your hard drive, and you can't even copy it. If you do have a wireless network, you probably need to adjust some settings so access must be authorized. |

yup - I use a wireless router. I set up a password and security code on the router, and now itunes is fine. The Kibret Boreland playlist is gone. I assume my neighboor won't be able to use my connection anymore, right? What other things can I do to prevent people from getting on my wireless network? |

There are a few things... there's something called MAC filtering (not Apple; MAC is an address on the wireless interface) that will let you specify exactly what computers are allowed on your wireless network. You can also choose not to broadcast your SSID... frankly, that should be more than enough for a home network. |

Kibret would only be able to see your songs if you have sharing turned on in iTunes, if you don't you can still listen to Kibret's tunes, but Kibret can't see yours to listen to. |

Same thing happened to me...One morning I noticed a random person's name in my itunes folder. Turned out to be my neighbor. I was able to listen to his songs with no problem. And I do not have a wireless network set up in my home...I presume he does however and my PC latched on to it. Odd. |
