Dave and Jamie: I love MOL, am addicted to it even, okay, I can admit it. My hands don't shake yet, but I am getting carple tunnel syndrome. Anyhow, I am home sick as a dog for four days, with barely the energy to type my name onto the keyboard. When I stop coughing and hacking up strange dark green matter from the nether regions of my lungs, I certainly do not have the time or patience to wait for MOL to load up a preview page, and then wait even longer--perhaps as much as 30 seconds or more--for the final post to appear. Yegads, I don't have time for all this waiting around to share my pearls of wisdom with the unsuspecting crowd--well, they are suspect, but you know what I mean. So, I propose that you develop a neural transmitter implant so that my posts go directly from my mind to the thread, unmediated by fingers or even conscious thought (I heard that). This would dramatically speed up my MOL efficiency and perhaps even save me from getting fired some day for spending too much time on MOL. You guys seem pretty damned clever, what with that Maplewood Cam and all, so I am sure you can develop this for your loyal and sybaritic following (is that a word? Sounded good about there). Gee, while you are at it, an implanted OED chip and maybe a Stunk & White chip might help, you know, make things flow a lot easier. Anyhow, gotta innovate or you get left behind, and all that. Thanks in advance for your cooperation. And I did post this in the right thread, right? I mean, if not you then perhaps one of the nerds has a way to do this? I am thinking that Reingold already has a patent on it, given how much and how fast he posts. Okay, I am going back to slowly rotting my mind on daytime television. |

I believe it's STRUNK and White. But the chip you suggest would have caught that. Great idea! Maybe we could get it funded by the Government. You know, it might stop terrorism too. Oops, now THAT comment is on the wrong thread. |

The trick here is to multi-task! In the time it takes for one of the larger threads to load you could be knitting a couple of rows onto a hand-knit scarf, entering a few words into a crossword puzzle, removing excess dust from your work surface, alphabetizing records prior to filing them, arranging photographs in an album, etc. Such dual activitiy helps to take some of the guilt away from spending so much time on MOL.
