Don't know why these disks wont work. Tried to format using Roxio, but it just won't acknoledge the disk. I have a DVD-RW drive, and have been able to write to CD's. Is it cause it's a DVD? Thanks! |

Are you sure you should be using DVD-R? Have you ever burned a DVD before? Some burners use DVD-R, some use DVD+R, some can burn to either. Do you know what kind of burner it is? |

Aaah, there's the problem. it's a +R, not a -R. What the heck does that mean, anyway? |

Two different competing formats. The same problem is being developed too, with the next generation of DVD's. Sony and others are backing a new format called Blueray, while Microsoft and others are backing HD-DVD. It seems there will soon be burners of both types available, to confuse the consumer. Remember Betamax vs VHS? Sony lost that one, bet they don't want to lose this time. |

Thanks! I will try to understand. At least Betamax and VHS things looked different. Well, anyone want a bunch of new unused DVD-Rs? |

How many do you have? Do you know what the burn rate is? 2x, 4x, 8x?

It's a just opened spool of (I believe) 25. Looks like the burn rate is 8x. 4.7 GB. PL me if you, or anyone else, is interested. |

Are you sure these won't work, how old is this burner? I don't even know if you can find a burner out there now days that wouldn't support burning to +R media. Perhaps you can go to the manufacturers website to see if you need a firmware update for it. What burner do you have? |

It's what was provided with my Dell: Philips DVD+RW-D28 then it says dvd/cd-rom drives. I have written to CD-R all purpose disks before. I did try resetting the write speed to match the 8x on the disk, but that didn't change anything. I hear the thing spin around in the drive, and Roxio keeps telling me to "insert a disk" as though there's nothing there.

I'm not sure I was clear: the disks are DVD-R. By the way, Monster, my two year old says "aww, how toot" when he sees your avatar. |

The burner that came in my PowerBook would only burn -R discs, a 1Ghz G4 machine, with a pioneer drive. I just replaced that drive though, and the new one will burn both. I've only used -R discs so far though, cause that's all I have.
