It could be dust. Pry the keycap off and see if you can blow dust out.

The space bar is the most complex key on the board. It usually has multiple springs and a supporting bar. Possibly one of these items has broken or become dislodged. Or, what happens to me quite often is a crumb from one of my indulgences lodges under a key. You can pry it off and take a peek. |
