Trying to save a Word document (at work) , but I get a "cannot save due to file permission error". It was after 4 pm, so my tech support was not available. Did some poking around, using google, and came up with a site that seems to refer to trying to save to a disk, rather than the hard drive... or in my case, the server ( I think) . (that the problem is the file size, in my case it is only a 2-3 page text file) The computer asked if I wanted to retry the save, and tried to create a temporary file, but that wouldn't save either. I ended up copying the document and emailing it to myself at home... where I will save it and send it back to myself in the AM. I'm using a Dell Optiplex machine, with Windows 2000 ( I think, could be XP). We are not supposed to save to the HD, but rather to some X drive (or Q drive, or something) . Can anyone help me figure out why this is happening and what I can do to prevent it again?? It always seems to happen at inopportune moments. THANKS! |

Did you try saving under a different file name? If someone else had a doc with same title that would create a permission error, I think. |

Or you may have lost your connection to the network drive - did you try saving it to the hard drive? |

We can't save to the hard drive (at least I can't figure out how!)... and I did try changing the name of the file... We'll see if tech support responds to my phone call. Thanks!

What is the name of the file? It may not contain a slash or backslash. Try saving it in C:\TEMP if it exists.

Tom - Is a dash in the file name okay? It was "Scholastic Books - January 2006" |
