Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced computer geek to clean out my hard drive and transfer data to my new computer. |

As a matter of fact, yes I can. I just sent you an email with particulars and references - if you don't get it, feel free to send me a message at divemaster@optonline.net |

You can also PL me. Case and I could start a bidding war to provide our geek services. Although I don't really consider myself a geek. * * Proof that I am not a geek. I cannot name any of the episodes of the original Star Trek TV series. Plus, I do not own a "hacker2600" t-shirt. |

No offense, but if the Star Trek thing is true then you have no business working on a computer. In fact, I have serious doubts if you're supposed to be USING a computer, even in the post-AOL world of mainstream processing. Its like that time everyone beamed down to the planet and got infected by those spores, remember? Even Spock started experiencing these intense emotions... Shatner had to slap the crap out of him before almost getting his kicked by a raging Spock. At least it wasn't Picard; they probably would have had some kind of weepy girl-infested discussion with lots of talk about feelings... thank goodness Kirk knew how to handle things properly. Hmm. But I digress. Anyway, '2600' is a fabulous magazine! PS - want a naughty little thrill? Imagine that the red dots were actually a three-letter word for 'donkey' that rhymes with "gas". Wow! Aren't you feeling decadent? You bad, bad little boy! That language is only for grown-ups... you should be ashamed! |

My son isn't quite the geek I am, as I'm a Star Trek fan, and he isn't. Imagine! Anyway, that's what he does, he's a local, and his company advertises here on MOL. www.networkandpccare.com or PL me, and I'll have him call you, if you like. |

"No offense, but if the Star Trek thing is true then you have no business working on a computer." Case: Do you mock me? Well, I don't own a Mac, you know, because there is no fun in that. Macs are for people who want to use their programs, not troubleshoot them. That's gotta count for something. |

Let's face it - owning a Mac would preclude you from even DISCUSSING this topic. (Pause here while we wait for the floodgates to open). Do you at least have a comic book collection? Poor eyesight? Can you quote big chunks of dialog from "Monty Python and the Holy Grail"? Help ME to help YOU. |

No comic book collection (I do know someone who owns an extensive one, though). I am no Poindexter, but do have relatively poor eyesight. I didn't grow up in this country, so, I have never <gasp> seen an episode of Monthy Python. Have we inadvertently hijacked this thread (sorry!) |

I guess its hijacked - Barbara got an email from me (hopefully) plus a few other choices, so I guess its in her hands now. That is a great story about Kevin Mitnick - he was denied access to a telephone while in jail because the prosecutor convinced the judge that he could 'whistle into the phone and take control of a computer'. Its another proud moment to be an American. |

Geek (n) - A nerd who hasn't quite made it yet. Nerd (n) - A sentient being who posseses technical ability in one or more fields far in excess of the societal norms. Now Star Trek TOS - That is a show full of pure class. I for one as a youngster found the rolemodels provided extremely enlightening - namely: Kirk - Flying around the galaxy saving females from their virginity. Spock - Nothing like the ability to calmly express the opinion that your likely doomed and place a percentage on the odds. Scotty - The hardware has a soul - thus cursing, cajoling or promoting it is to be encouraged. --Tarp
