Keep getting this message saying it's time to renew. These are updates I have to pay for. I have Spybot, and perhaps a couple others. Is it worth it to renew?

If your provider is AOL or Verizon, AOL offers automatically updating McAfeee (free) and Verizon now offers Nortons or McAfee for free in their new Yahoo/Verizon option.

If it's another provider, I'm sure they have their version offered for free as well.

You definitely should have up-to-date antivirus software (most likely Norton or McAfee) in addition to spybot.

If you can get it for free, that's great.

Meand, Personaly, I switched to one of the free AV products (AVG from Grisoft). It's highly rated, and the only thing differnt from the pay version is the ability to fine tune update scheduling.

If it's not free - you can usually buy McAfee or other virus software at softwareoutlet.com for less than the McAfee/Norton etc. renewal price.

Comcast gives it for free too if I'm not mistaken.

Just checked, here's the page, http://www.comcast.net/security/mcafee/

But I don't really care for McAfee and generally don't suggest it.
Below you will find a list of links for tools I use, and recommend.

Thanks all. And thank you too Monster for all the great links. Could you do me a favor and just pick one or two of those you think are best and tell me what they are? That's a pretty long list and I wouldn't have a clue where to start.

(I just love that little blue guy, he makes me happy!)

Verizon just unveiled this late last year...if you get DSL through Verizon, log into your Verizon home page, and there's a huge Link talking about the Yahoo/Verizon option. You download the software for free, and you basically get Yahoo "premium service" for free, which includes regular updating Virus Software/Firewall.

I didn't do it because we do it through AOL. But it seemed like a good freebie since most people probably use Verizon in this town.

You can also go here: Google Pack
