can you say "cha-ching" Remember not to type your administrator password just because you get prompted for it. Always know why before you do so. One should never just open a file, without knowing where it came from, what it is, what it does, and why is it asking for my password? So now that the Mac has reached mainstream status, does this mean that the lemmings will start using Macs? |

Not a virus, but a Trojan, to which no platform is invulnerable: Update: It appears that there is some debate about the classification of this application, and as it does require user activation, and a password if you are not already an administrator, it appears to fall into the Trojan classification, rather than self-propogating through any particular vulnerability in OS X. |

Not even close to a virus. A virus is something that is transmitted without the help of the host. Entering an ADMINISTRATIVE password is on par with allowing ROOT user access. |

OK, I accept all flames in advance... but if PC users are generally dumb enough to open files, click links and "open the kimono" on a regular basis, I shudder to think what the average Mac user is going to be like. I can see it now: incense in the air, love beads on the computer desk, ravi shankar music playing in the background... and then comes a 'system warning' : "Danger! MacOS has detected an uncool vibe. Please enter your administrative password to restore karmic balance". The entire state of California could be crippled in a matter of hours (except for certain parts of the Valley, of course). |

Perhaps so many Mac users will fall off their chairs that the state of CA will experience the big one....

Did you guys read about the 'karmic warning' embedded in the new Mac OS? I swear I'm not making this up. Look, I can prove it: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060217/ap_on_hi_te/apple_hacker_warning Those kind of eerie premonitions are just, well... eerie. |
