Is it possible to rip a DVD movie and convert it to a quicktime movie file? What software should I use?

I rip DVDs to uncompressed MPG-2 using a variety of (free) software packages:

DVD Decrypter
Imago MPG Multiplexer
AC3 Delay Corrector

I still owe you a CD, so I'll add those to the list!

Forgive my ignorance, but quicktime reads mpg-2, right? And are the programs you listed for mac?

Thanks! I look forward to listening to the CD.

Also try HandBrake for ripping. Works well for me.

Sorry, but these are not Mac compatible. I'm sure there's a TON of video ripping software out there for Macs, though I couldn't really name any.

Like eponymous said, you can use Handbrake for ripping the movie.
Here's a tutuorial for using Handbrake to rip a DVD for your iPod, use it as an example for what to do.

Now if you want to rip the DVD to your iPod but don't want to get confused by all the settings, use handBrake Lite.

If Handbrake doesn't work, you want to consider MacTheRipper
get it while you can, this version still works to bypass Macrovision, at least as long as it's not the most recent version..

DVD2OneX the Mac version of DVD2One can be found under the downloads link.

Ok , how about the other way. MPEG-4, AVI, files from digital camera to DVD on an iMac superdrive.

iDVD won't accept the AVI file. Would Quicktime Pro , Popcorn or Toast help.

Anything on versiontracker.

you should be able to open the file with Quicktime Pro and then export.
Or you can use iMovie to string together the avi files and then export.
ffmpegX can convert many files, http://homepage.mac.com/major4/
Here are a couple apps that can be a big help with avi files,
3ivx D4 4.5.1 for OS X
Divx Doctor 2
there's a list of apps here, http://www.versiontracker.com/php/search.php?mode=basic&action=search&str=avi&pl t%5B%5D=macosx&x=0&y=0
a few of the apps I mentioned in my post above may work

and yes, Toast is great, it will burn the avi to a dvd, or you can choose to just export the avi to dv.

Epo , I have a Casio Exilim 600 which can take up to 2 hours of mpeg-4 movies. This creates avi files which I want to turn into DVD's.

Great camera by the way.

OK, but why do you want them to be DVDs? Why not just keep them as the original mpeg-4?

Epo, I want to be able to save them and play them on a DVD player. The movies are recorded on a 2GB SD card so I need to transfer them.

Monster, iMovie works, thanks.
