What's the fastest, cheapest way to get PowerPoint on my new computer? I have installed MS Office 2000 Small Business but it seems to have everything except PowerPoint. |

I think there's a tradeoff between fast and cheap. Fast is run to Staples or CompUSA. Cheap is some web site, such as http://www.jr.com or http://www.amazon.com I don't think you can download it and pay for a license over the net.

I thought I needed powerpoint. I was unable to find a way to get it that was both cheap and legal. I ended up using Open Office (openoffice.org), a compatible program, which is free and legal. I also tried Star Office, which is cheap and legal. I mostly need to read files, and for doing that, either of these work. I can't vouch for how good they are at creating presentations, cause I don't do much of that. But it may be worth looking into |

Yeah, I've used OpenOffice. It doesn't look as slick as MS Office, but it works at least as well, and it makes totally compatible files. It's amazing what you get for free. That darned thing really works! My last PC had OpenOffice rather than MS Office, because I couldn't get a good deal on MS at the time. http://www.openoffice.org

Thanks. Can other folks running Powerpoint run and view OpenOffice files? |

Yes, though the default is to save files in OpenOffice format, so you have to explicitly save in Office format. When you do that, yes, MS users can read and modify your files. When you save in Office format, it warns you that you might lose some formatting, but that doesn't seem to be true. Never had a problem!

Office 2000 small business doesn't come with powerpoint? perhaps when installing office you or someone de-selected powerpoint thinking that you would not needed. Before going out to buy, atleast check your Office CD's and make sure. |

Mr. T I have powerpoint on CD. If you still need powerpoint I think I can help you out. I don't know what I am actually legally allowed you say in order to not get sued. So I will just say that I can meet with you any time after 4:00 today and solve your problem. So if you need me just let me know. |

assuming you are in college, have a kid in college, are an educator, etc. -- you can get the Student & Teachers version -- which can be installed on up to 3 PCs (legitimately). Costco has the suite (WOrd, Powerpoint, Excel, Outlook) for about $115. ;-) btw, no id needed to buy this verion.... /p |
