Do you have a general backup of your hard drive (or the folder containing Outlook, at least)? If so, you can attach the backup of your outlook.pst file as a separate personal folders file and access it that way. If no backup, I think it is lost. |

Try this (I'm assuming that you are using Outlook, rather than Outlook Express): 1. Click on the 'Deleted Items' folder in Outlook 2. Go to Tools -> Recover Deleted Items... 3. A window should open showing recently deleted items that were removed from the Deleted Items Folder (or permanently deleted) - select the ones you want to recover (you can select multiple by holding down CTRL while you select them with the mouse), then click on the 'Recover Selected Items' button at the top of this window (icon looks like an envelope with an arrow coming out of it) Hope this helps, Jason |

They were hard deleted...shift/delete. they are gone. I tried corrupting the pst file and repairing it and they are still gone. |

The Tools->Recovered Deleted Items trick will work for emails that are hard delete (this is like a 'last chance' - even after they've disappeared from the Deleted Items Folder) - however there's a little change to the process that I forgot to mention in my previous email. If you hard deleted items from your Inbox (or any other folder) - instead of selecting your 'Deleted Items' folder (as in Step 1), go to the folder that you hard deleted from (e.g. Inbox), then select Tools -> Recover Deleted Items. Same happened to me several years ago (2002). I used recovery software called FinalEmail which I purchased for about $20. Worked great. I did a quick search and see that FinalEmail is still around, but I don't know whether there are even better tools available now. Good Luck! |

Trouble is Jason I don't even have a "recover deleted items" choice in my drop down from tools. |

Neither do I. Must be a newer version of Outlook. |

Have you tried connecting to the mail server via web browser to see if the messages are still on the SERVER? (who is your email provider?) I usually set Outlook to keep messages on the server for a period of time, even after they are downloaded locally to Outlook. |

Argh Sorry - I didn't realize that this feature wasn't in all versions of Outlook. I am running Outlook 2002 (from Office XP). Jason |

Yea, MHD I did that for a while when I was out of town and would be accessing my email via a web server, then changed it when I got home. DOPE that I am. no worries Jason, most of the body of those emails are in the sent folder when I answered them. Most however is not all. But thanks for your continued efforts to help me out, I really appreciate it. |

Duncan, Go to this site and download the free trial of Stompsoft's RecoverX. It works pretty damn well. It the trial doesn't do it, let me know and I'll lend you my full version copy. http://www.stompsoft.com/recoverlostdata.html |

the trial only scans and says yea or nay. It won't let you recover anything. I may take the 40 dollar plunge in case I do this again. Not much if the software actually works. Which it didn't. It didn't find anything after a complete scan of the system. Checked every .pst file and nothin. |
