I need to free up memory on my iPod, and want to delete some podcasts I downloaded from iTunes onto it. The iPod manual says I should select my iPod under the Source list in iTunes, then select "update manually," and THEN select the items on my iPod that I want to delete and press Backspace or Delete (after connecting the iPod to the computer, of course). But there's no way to do this. Once I select my iPod from the Source list, the screen reads "do not disconnect" and will not allow me to go to the menu and select anything for removal. Does anyone have any ideas for me? Is there another way to delete material from an iPod? |

You perform the deletion with itunes, which controls the content of your ipod. You can't delete with the ipod's screen and clickwheel.

select your iPod on the left (Source list) in iTunes on your computer, not on your iPod. All these settings are done in iTunes on your computer. |

So that means if I want to get rid of something on my iPod, I have to get rid of it on iTunes as well? I was hoping to keep a library of the podcasts in iTunes so that if I wanted to re-listen to something, I could. |

No, you don't have to lose anything from your hard drive. I think the confusion is because the name "iTunes" can mean a few things: - The music store - The program you use to play music off of your hard drive - The program you use to add/delete music, playlists, video, etc. to your iPod. In this case, they meant the last one. This should help: "Apple Support: Deleting songs or playlists from your iPod" http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60940
