Quote:

Research mavens Forrester Research, known for almost always recommending against the early adoption of any new technology, have released the results of its semiannual survey on how much we trust well-known consumer electronics brands. "The 2005 Technology Brand Scorecard"...

...Going by the results of the study, the biggest winners were Bose, Apple, and Dell...

...At the other end of the spectrum was Microsoft, which was included due to its presence in the gaming console market. By a long shot, the software giant scored lowest on both dimensions....

I know what they mean, but I think that Forrester's perspective is off. Try looking at it this way: pretend that Microsoft is the United States of America, and replace 'technology marketplace' with 'the world'.

Now... does the USA give a crap what the rest of the world thinks? A better question might be, WHY should the USA give a crap what the rest of the world thinks! Read on:

We always gain consensus for our actions... unless we don't, at which point we just bomb the hell out of a few countries. Gotta defend the world against communism... er, I mean terrorism... or maybe the Indians - gotta defend the world against those damn heathens!

Virtually all the nations of the world agree that the USA should end its embargo of Cuba. The USA's response? F Cuba. F Cuba in the a. Oh, and while we're at it, f all the rest of y'all, too. Don't make us bomb you - because we will. We WILL.

Environmental controls? Heh heh heh... environmental controls are for countries that don't have nuclear weapons. Now shut the f up and let us get back to making SUVs.

See? Microsoft isn't bad... its just a microcosm of America!
