Anyone use these? Make a recommendation? I'm considering the Olympus brand recorders most seriously. Would use them for recording interviews and focus groups. Thanks! Alissa |

If you have an ipod, I recommend the Griffin iTalk. It plugs into the top of your ipod and turns the ipod into a voice recorder. Each recording becomes a file on your ipod. You can copy or move them onto your computer, so you end up with tons of storage (your computer) for the recordings. It's about $40, but of course, an ipod is much more. I have an RCA mp3 player that is also a voice recorder. It cost me about $40. Oddly enough, it's also a radio, a heart monitor, and a calorie counter. Who asked for all these features in one gadget? I confess to not having tried the voice recording ability of the gadget, so I can't say how good it is. It has a non-expandable internal memory, but I assume that with the USB cable, I can connect it to my computer and transfer files back and forth.

hadn't thought about the ipod possibilities, but this is for my company so I doubt they would go for something that has "fun" potential! |

I guess I understand the rationale that if it's also fun, it's bad for business. I also disagree with it, if it happens to be the best tool for the job. Anyway, try googling "mp3 player voice recorder". The Olympus models vary. I think the bottom of the line has a non-expandable memory and you can't get stuff on or off with a computer. So the only input is your voice (or ambient sound) and the only output is its own speaker (and maybe headphones). You can delete but you can't move stuff elsewhere. The higher models allow you to connect to a computer, and that could be worth the money.

Yeah, I definately want to be able to upload the voice files to the computer. They have some that use cradles (which I don't like the idea of) and some that have direct USB connections from the recorder (which seems like a better idea). Need to be able to transcribe the interviews. |

I have an olympus recorder, I can't remember the model and I don't have it right now but it's great. It's never given me a problem and getting the files onto my computer is a breeze. |
