It's good. As long as you know not to download blatantly bogus files...you should be OK. Limewire pro used to be availible through a loophole...but they recently closed the account...darn |

Thanx Glock. I assume most folks use it for music, but aren't there legal issues such as the gov suing and shutting down Napster ? How does LW get around this ? |

Well as long as you turn your uploads off and don't function as a node...you should be fine. It's people that were uploading a bazillion songs and movies and files to other people that they are going after. |

Lazy, what are you doing? Try downloading a BitTorrent program. I like BitComet. Movies, music, programs... legal and illegal... but this thread is not about morals so we will not get into that. Limewire is the best of the worst kind of file sharing programs. It works alright and doesn't f-up the computer like programs like Kazaa will do. Turning uploads off isn't very nice. If you have the bandwidth you should upload at least a portion of your files. If no one uploaded files, you wouldn't be able to download anything. People who don't upload should be able to download. (There are certain sites that force a suitable upload/download ratio to continue to use the service. Remind me of this the next time I see you and I will be happy to help guide you through this mess of files sharing programs the best I can.

I set Limewire to block people that aren't sharing at least 200 files. I don't share MP3s, though. |

200? That's rough even for me. I don't really use limewire anymore, although I think I have it one one computer. I think it was set at 40. |

Another vote for Limewire. I've used them all and Limewire is the best P2P yet. They don't load ya up with adware, but make sure your virus definitions are up to date! |

You are on a Mac right?, Azureus, Acquisition (will also handle BitTorrent files), BitTorrent. P2P Wiki I'm getting the second episode of the new season of DR Who as I type. |

Lazydog, I forgot that you are on a mac. Before choosing a reliable file sharing program you should switch to a PC. That is my first piece of advice to you. (Monster, that also goes out to you.) You crazy mac users when will you learn. |

Limewire is the best...and turning off uploads saves teh bandwiths that would be stoeled and burninated up by uploads...and there will always be enough people uploading. |

I use a Mac, but this would be for my Lazy daughter ! I'd probably set it up on one of the PC's. My main concern is security. Even though these products claim to only expose a specific folder, I know there are ways around this. Keeping virus defs uptodate is not a problem, but all my computers are networked and I don't want some script kiddie getting to the other computers or folders. |

Well then excercise safe downloading practices. Don't download files that have stringed names i.e. "Finding Nemo (JessicaSimpsonSouthParkFamilyGuyParisHilton).avi" On a Mac you should be ok. Just excercise caution on a PC. I have been using limewire on both for years. |

Ah, Glock - people like you are the reason I'm glad the "freeloader disable" option is available on LimeWire!

Gamers can't afford to run uploads. I have three computers running online games at the same time...the last thing I need is limewire jacking bandwith. |

Glock, you have inspired me. I have shut off uploads to people who share less than 200 files. You have three computers (at least) hooked up to the net, room to upload something called naruto, but not enough room to share files that people actually want. You should be ashamed of yourself. I know you won't be, but you should be. |

Well 1 Mac 1 PC and a Playstation 2. (And a Playstation 1 and a Sega Genesis but those are not connected to the internet...but I usually run all three at the same time so I can swap between 5 different games at my whim.) |

I haven't downloaded/installed yet. Probably at the weekend. I want to "play" with it for a while before LazyDaught gets her hands on it. I need to be able to "explain the rules of usage" ! |

So you mean that you are going to fill the hard disk with obscure British music from the late 70's. And then tell her that there is no more room for her music because LazyDad has a new obsession called Limewire? |
