Photoshop files should rarely contain text and when it does it should be very little text. PS doesn't play nice as publishing software. |

dave, I use photoshop for magazine covers including images and text. I did find Spell Catcher that will run in all my applications and check text. Was hoping to fix the problem in photoshop. |

A guess: Try moving any non-type layer beneath the type layers and don't have the text selector in toolbox selected when you do the check. |

Can you turn off Photoshop's spell checker, or remove the plug in? After doing this does the problem still occur? If the problem still happens, turn it back on or reinstall the plug in, then set Spell Catcher to ignore Photoshop, and then try Photshops's built in spell checker, does the problem still occur? Of course it would be easier perhaps to do the second step I gave, first. Mac or (shudder) PC? |

Monster, A mac of course. I will try your suggestions at work on tuesday. Would reinstalling the program over again help? Dave, Will try your idea. PS: Talked to my sister today. She ran spell check in photoshop 10 and there was no crash. |

reinstalling can work wonders, as well as repairing permissions, and then doing so over again until you are showing that nothing has been repaired. Restart the Mac while holding down the shift key until it boots, this will start your Mac in safe mode which will automatically invoke the fsck check and repair command that one can utilize when starting the Mac in Single User Mode, and typing the command at the user prompt. After the Mac starts up, go to your Utilities folder located in your Applications folder, there you will find Disk Utility, select your hard drive shown on the left, and then select the repair permissions button, again, repair permissions over & over if need be until you are getting a report showing no permissions repaired. The above can also be accomplished by booting from your start up disk (or an external drive) and selecting Disk Utility in the File menu, there you can repair permissions and also select the Repair Disk command until everything is reported as OK. Restart the Mac and see if you are still having problems, If you have DiskWarrior or TechTool, you might want to repair your Directory at this time, and or use the other tools in TechTool. While you are at it, this would be a good time to perform some other maintenance tasks as well. You can do these in Terminal, or if you have or would be comfortable using, a third party app such as Cocktail, or Onyx. In Terminal, type the following commands to perform cron maintenance tasks, do one, let it complete, then do the other. sudo periodic daily sudo periodic weekly sudo periodic monthly Press return between each line, and wait until the first command has completed to start the second one. after all this, it's time to "update your prebindings", this means forcing Mac OS X to go through all of the application files and make sure that they are correctly linked together. type the following in Terminal sudo update_prebinding -root / -force Then, enter return, type your password, and enter return again. I like to repair permissions again, and then restart once more. |

Well if you need enough text so that you have to run a spell checker...I'd say dont use photoshop. |

and just how much ad layout, design work, etc., have you done? also, regardless if Photoshop has it's own spell checker (it's helpful, when you are concentrating on getting the design right, and may overlook the spelling of words, which is very easy to do, even if it's just a mistake in hitting the worng key, or typing out of sewuence). Spell Catcher is a system wide application that should work with/in any and all applications, if it's not, than something is wrong, lets fix it and leave spelling out.... |

You could call adobe and give them the error code if you have one. Or just check tech-heavy message boards with photoshop users and post your problem in one. Chances are if you have this problem many others will. |
