I am taking my new digital camera on vacation and would like to know the most efficient way to print the pictures. Up to now, with a small quantity of photos I've used a kiosk at Drug Fair at 29 cents a pop. Since I should have many, more photos upon my return, I'm open for suggestions. I did not buy a little 4x6 printer since I intend to upgrade my Apple computer/printer setup later this summer. My present old IMac can't handle this stuff, so I can't use an online developer at this time. Does having a little dedicated photo printer make sense as an interim device? Should I have my memory card transferred to a CD so that I can redo/edit my pictures when I upgrade? |

Can you use iPhoto and Apple's print service? 4 x 6 prints cost .19 each plus shipping, seems an easy way to do it. I'm not sure which version of iPhoto started that service, but it's been available a while.

Why can't your present old iMac handle this stuff? Which iMac do you have, speed, hard drive size, etc.? What size card do you have in your camera, get the largest you can before the trip, maybe even two or more. What mega pixel is the camera, a 4 mega pixel camera can take well over 2000 images at 1280x960, a little under 2000 at 1600x1200, and at 2272x1704 it can take around a 1000 images. Will you be taking a laptop with you, how about an iPod (3rd gen or later), you can use both to transfer your images off of the card for storage. Check out this Belkin iPod camera link, Apples alternative. When I was in San Francisco with no computer, I would take my camera every morning (even if the card wasn't full) and have Walgreens just make a disc of files for me... didn't cost any horrific amount. 19¢ used to be the lowest - but I've seen 13¢ and below now... If I run into those prices I'll tell you where... You can also pre-buy with services like Snapfish, and I think the more you buy the cheaper it gets... |
