I have a bunch of sound files in RA format, which Windows Media Player won't play. Can anyone recommend software for converting these files? And here's another question which will reveal what a digital audio newbie I am: is it possible to convert stuff downloaded from iTunes to a format that's useable to Windows media? I have a Samsung portable audio player, and it only works w/Windows Media Player playlists. |

easiest way in iTunes is to burn iTunes music to CD format, then you can re-import that music as MP3's, which is more compatable. You can probably do the same Real Player, though I'm not sure about that. |

I'm using a PC. We're talking about a lot of files...any quicker way than burning and re-importing? Thanks for your responses-- |

PC Boilsofts converter, $24.99 ALO converter & guide FairStars converter perhaps dbPowerAmp Mac the Terminal way or you can try playing the file in Real Player and then using an audio capture app such as Audio Recorder or Wiretap |

Stuff you pay for at the itunes store is in AAC format, though the filenames usually end with "m4p". There are conversion programs that convert from AAC to MP3 format. I haven't seen any free ones. They are around $25. If you have a lot of files, the cost is easy to justify. I haven't used one yet, but I plan to buy one. You can find them with the google search terms "convert aac to mp3".

You can convert aac to mp3 from iTunes (as well as Apple Lossless, wav, aiff, and aac) and even ogg, and flac, as well as use LAME encoding, just can't export that protected m4p, unless you have never upgraded past iTunes 5, and haven't used your iTunes username and password with iTunes past version 5, then you could still use jHymn to strip the protection from the m4p, at least you could still do that the last time I checked.

Jhymn only works if you can authorize the songs to begin with. I've "gotten" m4p files and NOT been able to authorize it and Jhymn wasn't able to help me. |

well of course, you need the user name and password and they have to have been from a previous version of itunes like I explained above |
