The Start button on my PC is stuck. It appears to be caught behind the "body" of the box. I.e., it is as if when I pushed it in the button wiggled and moved outside the round opening. (How is that for technical language!) My question is: Can this be fixed at a pc repair shop like the Geek Squad? Since this is a mechanical issue vs. software or hardware I suspect repair may be difficult since it may involve putting in a new button. (No, I don't want to open the box myself.) It is a 6-year old pc, but right now it meets my needs and I am waiting for the Apple dual core pcs to move out of beta so I can confidently load windows.

Yes, but instead of Geek Squad, directly across the parking lot from Best Buy on Rt. 22 in Union there's a specialized computer store called "We Are Golden". Their number is (908) 206-0400. |

Or you could just open up the case and fix it yourself. Considering it is merely a button. |

"waiting for the Apple dual core pcs to move out of beta so I can confidently load windows" I'm curious - are you really saying you want an Apple machine specifically to install Windows? Or are you waiting for Vista to be out of beta? I was a tad confused at your statement. |

Save yourself some money and open that baby up. You're not under any warranty, you will probably be shocked at how easy it is to pop it back into place, and if something goes wrong and you can't get it back together for some reason, you can always pack it up and take it out to the Geeks or whatever. |

Just don't pop the space bar off. That's the one key that's hard to put back right.

KRNL did say that he / she didn't want to pop open the box him / herself. Hence my post. Tom - I think he / she means the 'Power' button on the case. (I did have to pop off the 'Z' key on a laptop yesterday to re-position the little white plastic pieces that support the keys, and *that's* no fun at all. :-/) |

Sorry I somehow glossed over the "I don't want to open the box myself" part while reading, so my comment isn't very helpful. There are reasons for a novice not to open a computer case. Static electrity comes to mind.

Perhaps you can find a household memeber, friend or neighbor who would be willing to help you open the case and pop the button back in place. This sounds as if it should take only a minute or two to fix. |

Thanks Albatross, I'll give them a call. Yes, I could try to open the box myself, but the other household member is pretty set against that--sooo, going to an expert is the better course for us. Bailey, when I checked out Apples the other day I was told by the salesguy that although the dual core in the new imacs supports Windows it is still in beta. The way I understood what he said is that it doesn't relate to Vista, but to the new Imacs. Frankly I don't want to wait for Vista because I know it will have many initial bugs and I'm not keen on any beta versions. Unfortunately there are some applications I want to run that need Windows.

KRNL, I belive it is the SOFTWARE (Boot Camp) that is in beta, bot the hardware. I don't think I have ever heard of a consumer products company releasing "beta hardware" to the public. So feel free to buy that new Mac. Just know that Boot Camp may never be out of beta. |

Please don't buy a new machine just because your current machine's little plastic button is stuck behind the edge of a little plastic hole. I'm hyperventilating just at the thought of it.

I agree with wnb. Buy the new one because you'll love the new mac. Yeah, I agree with Rastro too, don't wait for Boot Camp to become more mature, buy now. |
