Does anyone have a ipod car transmitter (which allows you to hear your ipod through your car speakers via a FM channel). I've read some reviews that the sound is bad. Any other opinions? The device I see on Amazon is only $30 so I wonder if it's worth it or not. Thanks |

They can be OK, but it depends. I have one, and it's not so great. I think the main problem is that it puts out such a weak signal (so as not to interfere with other receivers) that the transmitter has to be right next to your receiving antenna. And even that's not a guarantee. Another problem is that the audio bandwidth conveyed in a typical FM signal is less than in an ipod or CD. So even if the radio signal is strong, you'll lose a little. You may or may not notice this. I use my transmitter around the house to play my ipod on the various boomboxes around the house. A cassette adaptor works better, if that works at all. I gave one to my cow-orker, but it didn't work in his car. His cassette player may have been too smart and noticed it wasn't a real tape. Even better is hardwired. I bought a new stereo for my car which has an input jack. I connect my ipod with a cable. Even better is a dash-mounted mp3 player, (i.e. not an ipod at all) because the display and controls are right where you need them while you're driving.

what he said, and there are just too many stations around here, You'll find yourself having to change the broadcast frequency way too much, although I think I had pretty good luck with the Griffin iTrip several years ago, but I had to install the lowest Japanese frequency's and use those. think I had to find them on the net somewhere if I'm not mistaken, but once I did it worked pretty well, except for the station problem in this area. I ended up just getting a new car stereo with an aux jack, check out http://www.crutchfield.com/ for one that suits you, some of them even allow you to control the iPod through the stereo, with an interactive display showing what's on the iPod. Or how about something like the Harmon Kardon Drive + Play |

Re: Getting a new car stereo that has the audio-in jack If your car's warranty is still in effect, you may want to hold off on doing this one. Unless you have the dealer install a manufacturer-approved stereo, you will probably void the car's warranty.

I jjust use the tape player. I need a new stereo though. If I buy the car from my dad that I normally drive right now...I'll probably get a low-end stereo (because ANYTHING would be better than the one I have right now) |

Monster, that is one cool device. However, it uses the radio to get the audio into your car stereo, right? |

And of course the first drive after I post that the stereo sucks...the front-passenger side speaker is starting to go too. Good grief. |
