It took me forever but I finally finished this great little dvd project to give to my dad and father-in-law for father's day. I go to burn it and NOTHING. Try again the next morning, NOTHING. After a call to Apple Support, I learn that despite the fact that my computer has iDVD and a very large BURN button on the bottom right of my new project, I cannot actually burn DVDs on my system. I was told I should get an external dvd burner.

Alas, my question: Any recommendations?

Thanks.

I assume your Mac has a firewire port..
If you would like, I can burn a copy for you.

I have an external hard drive, so you could copy your project to that, and I'll burn from there.

PL me if you want to give that a try.

Found this external burner at Apple's website, don't know if it's available in the Short Hills store, but you can get it online, for sure.

I've always had problems with LaCie drives, while it doesn't have LightScribe, I've had no problems at all with my OWC drive, I suggest taking a look at the OWC Mercury Pro Dual Layer DVD-/+RW Pioneer DVR-111D 16X External Drive
It doesn't come with Toast 7 either, but it comes with NTI Dragon Burn, and Dantz Retrospect Express, it also has both Firewire and USB 2 ports.

For some external drives to be fully functional with all aspects of OS X, Patchburn needs to be installed.

I've never tried the LaCie DVD drive, but I have two LaCie Firewire external hard drives, and they've been great.
Have you had problems with their hard drives, Monster? Should I worry?

I've had problems with their external CD burners in the past, and I've read accounts on other forums that lead me to believe I will never buy another LaCie.
If your drives have been good so far, then you probably won't have any problems, the one thing I hated was that I was always having to unplug and plug back in the Firewire cable from port to the other in order to get the burner recognized, but maybe they are a little better now.
