When the power goes off, or some other event occurs, my DSL modem and Wireless router goes on the fritz....most of the time, a Hard Reboot is all that is needed. But sometimes it doesn't work, and I end up closing my computer in frustration.

Miraculously, it ends up working fine the next morning. This happens often enough that it's a pattern. Anybody have any ideas why it simply needs to take a rest sometimes?

Have you tried updating the router's firmware?

This seemed to be happening a lot to my newest router. After I updated the firmware, it seems to be behaving as it should.

Also, are you using a surge suppressor? If so, is it properly grounded? Are you running any other electrical (non-computer) devices off the surge suppressor, such as a pencil sharperner or a fan?

it may be that the wireless is finished booting before the DSL modem, I keep my router and the modem connected to a battery backup as is suggested above, which can keep them powered for quite some time if they are all that's connected to it, and I can surf the net on my laptop during a power outage.

ITs in a surge protector, but there are other items plugged into it. I've not updated router Firmware, I'm not sure how I would do that.

Not clear whether the problem you're describing is at the wireless router or the DSL modem. Can you elaborate on what exactly fails?

Does your computer see / connect to the wireless but can't access the internet? Or can't it even connect to the wireless router at all? Have you tried connecting to the router via wire to see if it works then?

PS my theory is this is what happens: Probably overnight, your router does an ip refresh to your provider's server. Your ip "lease" is probably 24 hours. When the power goes off and back on, probably your router "loses" it's address info or doesn't know how to get it. You could probably go into the admin screen for the router and do a refresh of the internet connection yourself, and it would probably work. This is all assuming that your connection between the computer and the router is fine, and that it's the router to your provider's server that has gone out of whack.

No, the computer does not recognize a Wireless Signal in the area. It works if you plug it in hardwire.
