I think that's the technical term!

After being online for a short period of time over the past two days, my keyboard stops working right, for no reason the volume icon will appear when I log in and can't input my password, odd windows are popping up (not pop ups, but a search window, for instance, or an option window while I'm working in photoshop.)

I am pretty technically inept, what can I do???

Anyone??? PLease???

I got it running again, but that was after shutting down for a few hours and restarting holding the option key down. (Read that in my mac troubleshooting handbook.)

Have you repaired permissions lately, performed a file system check, etc., etc.?
Just sent you an email.

Given the juvenile reponses the mac owners give for similar posts on PC problems, here my response...

You shouldn't have bought an Apple... A PC would have been better :-)

MOnster, got your email. Thanks! I haven't done anything different, my usual online with Netscape, PHotoshop, etc. My girls were on toontime or something like that over the weekend/4th of July.

What happens is after awhile online or working in Pshop, the keyboard/cursor stops working right and find/search windows (from the applications) mysteriously open up, and "+" or other mysterious keys get punched in the windows like it's possessed! SOmetimes the volume control icon will appear and move up and down. Really odd!

It seems ok for a few hours, but I will keep my eyes on it.

ANy suggestions as to how to exorcise my eMAc???

it almost sounds as if someone is remotely controlling your Mac, though it could be a faulty keyboard, maybe a mouse (but probably not). If you have another keyboard try it after repairing permissions and doing a file system check if they don't fix the problem. If the problem still persists see what happens with the Mac disconnected from the internet.
Did you know that when you are viewing flash files there is a setting that allows the website to view you via your webcam, store files, listen to you through your microphone?

This wouldn't be your problem, I'm just throwing it out there.

If you have the install CD that came with the eMac, boot up off of it, after boot go to the file menu and choose Disk Utility, repair permissions over and over until nothing is showing as having been repaired, then choose to repair the disk over and over until the report comes back that everything is okay.

this is a start, let me know if you need more help.

Ok, now to find the install cd...with the move everything is all over the place!

If I can't find it can I burn one off the internet?

What OS are you running?

It would be a good idea to run a system maintance program like Cocktail or Macaroni. You can look on Versiontracker.com and find them. Do you have any repair programs like Diskwarrior?

It does sound like it could be a bad keyboard...when you say volume icon, do you mean the one in the middle of the screen or just simply the volume icon at the top of the menu?

Mac OS 10.2.8

I don't think I have any disk repair programs, other than disk utility or whatever came with the computer.

It's the volume icon in the middle of the screen, it's in a rounded square box I think, looks like the key 2nd to left of the numeric keypad on the right of the keyboard.

Well, the problems seem to have ceased for the time being. Perhaps it was something spilled on my keyboard??? I don't have an extra keyboard here...wait, I do...my kid's iMac. Hmm, maybe I'll try that if I have that issue again.
