I have used older versions of VPC and in my office we use VMWare, which also gives a way a lot of free stuff, but has paid for 'pro' versions.

For playing around at home, I don't think you can see a big difference in the products. At work, large VMWare servers are a blessing for QA.

Also VMWare let's you get around the Windows copy protection, I would assume that VPC won't let you do that.

I didn't like VPC when you had to pay, I agree with Earlster, VMWare is the way to go.

Free is a good price for it. It's usually glacially slow, and is really only good for testing stuff on a Win32 platform. I don't suppose they're bundling any free OSs with it.
