Is it common for corporations to block Flash used in web sites? |

YEah because flash can easily be used as a way to drop viruses on a computer... *begins looking for the list of links and articles* |

I haven't seen Flash blocked at my clients, which include lots of financial services companies, known for blocking anything that might look like it could waste time during the day, let alone cause harm to their networks. I can't speak for technology companies, though. |

Flas is not blocked, but upgrading the version of Flas or any other app is... So if the user has v6.0 installed and you require Flash 7 (or whatever) it wont work...

Actually, I have seen that as well. Usually in conjunction with locking down a PC so that no software can be installed by the user directly, only through an admin account. That includes things like browser toolbars, add-ins etc. Strangely, the couple of clients I've seen that do this include flash as part of their standard image, and include flash in their promotional packages. |

So many corporations are using Flash on their public web sites now, it would be counterproductive for them to block it from their internal people. |

Dave, a nbr of orgs do use Flash for their coporate sites, but only on servers in a DMZ. Ports to the internal side are blocked. Usually, any emails with embedded Flash are stripped prior to getting to the coporations own email servers. This is because most large companies use external email vendors that provide spam/virus/ etc protection. |
