I'd like to buy a new iMac but am not sure how Quark runs (if it does) with the new Intel processor. I've heard that Adobe software will work but haven't heard anything about Quark. I really need to upgrade to an iMac soon!

Quark will probably be up to speed in four years or so, their usual schedule.

I feel like a slave to Quark...... how depressing! I would like to switch to InDesign but my clients are still with Quark. bummer.

Quark 7.0.1 universal binary beta2 just came to the end of it's demo period on July 31

I don't believe they have released another beta, which may mean the official first Quark Universal Binary may be released shortly.

Most people believe that Adobe won't be releasing Universal Binary versions of their apps for about 2 years (maybe a little less), in line with their normal schedule of releasing major updates, you can read their pdf on the topic here, http://www.adobe.com/products/pdfs/intelmacsupport.pdf

Quark released the universal binary of XPress 7 today. (08/07/06)

Of course, upgrading to v7 has its own problems. It's $250 for the upgrade (if you have a registered copy), most shops won't support it yet so you'll have to save as a lower version, xtensions will probably break. ... Let somebody else be the guinea pig.

If you really need to replace a machine (as opposed to dealing with MacEnvy over a new unit), I'd recommend hitting ebay or craigslist for a good used iMac, upgrade to v6.5 and wait another year.

Cordially,

Steven

I concur, version 6.5 will do for now, but if you need (not want) a new Mac, then get a new Mac now, like the new ones that were announced today, early next year if you still don't want to pony up for a new Quark version then buy Leopard and version 6.5 should run just dandy, of course with the new MacPro line it will run just fine anyway, just faster with Leopard.

Universal version is a free upgrade from the PowerPC-only version of QuarkXPress 7 which runs under Rosetta.
