I mean, I am going to get my HD replaced, and I have about 3 gigs of pix. I have one flash drive and it is used up. Are there reliable online storage facilities so I can transfer the images for a short period of time without having to buy new hardware?

I don't use the service, but I hear good things about ibackup.com.

If you want, you can bring your hard drive over here on Sunday and I'll throw everything onto one of my systems for a few days/weeks.

Try Ofoto.com (owned by Kodak). It's free and simple.

They can also send you archive CDs of your photos and good quality prints (cheaper to buy from them than print on your own; also longer lasting).

You can also get your photos printed on mugs, ties, pillows, etc.

Beware of the free servers. When you download, you get a reduced (low resolution) version.

I think your best bet is to copy your memory card onto your hard disk, empty it, and do regular backups of your hard disk. To do backups, use CD's. DVD's are even better if you have the ability to write DVD's. Or you can use an external hard disk.

You may want to look at Clubphoto.com too.

Google's gmail gives you two gigs of storage space, yahoo willl give you a gig, I think.

Maybe set up email accounts and email yourself your pics?

Or, if you have a wireless network, set up file sharing, share the photo file, and I'll hang out around outside your house and copy all your pics, then give you a DVD.

:-)

Do you have an iPod? you can use that as an external drive and copy all your pics. Can you borrow one for a few days?

Mozy. It's free, and because it's data-based there's no issue of degradation. You can back up anything, either based on location or file type.

Buy an external back up drive. You need one anyway. EVERYBODY should have one. Back up ALL your files regularly.

By the time you upload 3gigs of files you could go to Costco and back.

Thanks, all. Just thinking of having to email that much makes me sick--as Carla points out, very time consuming. My laptop has gone insane, so I can't put anything on it. I'll try mozy.com, or, Case, I'll pl you. Thanks again!

Wow, turns out the problem was solved by my mother, who has free access to unlimited data storage! Quite ironic since she was just complaining how I address most dilemmas on MOL instead of calling her first.

Mama knows best

Unbelieveable. I turned it on this morning and it's over. ALl the pictures are still on the HD and it won't do a cotton pickin thing. Boo! Tempt fate by waiting, and get creamed.
