We moved the computer around and disconnected the monitor from the computer, then reattached everything. Now we have no sound. I have checked connections, went to "my computer" to troubleshoot and followed directions, but it said this device is working properly. Before I get on the phone with Dell ( who I imagine will be a bit busy with laptop customers these days!), I thought I'd see if anyone can offer advice. It's probably something really simple that I've overlooked. |

Device is working properly, sometimes I hate that phrase. Have you tried rebooting? Do you have external speakers connected, and are they plugged into the right port on the sound board? Are there separate controls on the monitor for the sound, are they turned up, off mute? Is the sound turned up via the PC? Have you tried re-installing the driver? What about System Restore? |

If the speakers require external power, do they have the external power they require? |

Thanks for the questions... 1. Yes, I did reboot. 2. The only thing that was disconnected was the monitor from the computer, via its cable. So the external speakers are plugged into the same place they've always been. 3. No, there don't seem to be any controls for sound on the monitor. 4. Yes, the sound is turned up on the PC, as far as I can tell. I checked this during troubleshooting and remember seeing what looked like a sound board with sliders...all turned up, mute was not checked off. 5. & 6. Okay, these next two sound scary. System restore might be less intimidating rather than reinstalling, but what do I know? 7. As to the power to the speakers, yes they're plugged in. The little green light on the speaker is on. However I will confess to having quite a tangled swirl of wires from all components behind the computer desk. Before I try anything else, I'll pull the desk out and carefully track all cables to be sure everything is okay. Thanks for the guidance. |
