I got a MacBook Pro, the 2ghz, 15.4"er. I'm having a lot of problems, and contemplating returning it. My list of complaints, in no specific order: not all speech commands work sometimes the mouse doesn't work computer heats up a LOT, esp. by battery keeps shutting down apps drag lock is on even though it isn't clicked photobooth completely disappeared??!?! mouse is loose/makes noise on left side every once in a while I feel tiny electric shocks (which is not new in the laptop area, this has happened to me while working on other ones as well). Does anyone have any fixes for the above, or advice? I really thought I wanted this thing, researched a lot, saved $$, and it doesn't seem to be living up to its name. I'm thinking that on Monday, I might call Apple and ask to return it... and then I'll be without a computer ::sigh:: I can't take this **** anymore. |

Sounds like a bad unit. The electrical shocks are not normal, nor is crashing, bad mouse, etc. |

Get the latest firmware update. It's supposed to help with the heat (though I think these babies get pretty hot when you get that cpu cranking). Some of the other problems sound like a bad mouse. Get them to replace it. The apple store is probably your fastest route for that. |

I'm all updated. Ok, I'm going to go to the Apple store tomorrow... I still don't know how to decide whether to get it fixed or return it all together. |

For what it's worth, I haven't experienced any of those problems with my 17" MacBookPro, although I don't use speech commands. Photobooth disappeared? As in, the application is gone, or the icon is gone from your dock? Look in the applications folder, if Photobooth is there, open it to make sure it works, then while it's open click and hold on the icon in the dock and select keep in dock. The other issues (except the heat) all sound mouse (trackpad) related. I'd let the guys in the Apple Store take a look. |

it didn't disappear from the dock, it just had a big question mark in the middle of it... then I went into the apps, and it wasn't there... Bailey, how are you liking yours? Would you say it is worth keeping vs. returning and buying a PC? |

Well, it depends. The MacBook Pro is a pretty high-end computer. I like mine a lot, but I do a lot of video editing with it, and I love all the apps that come with iLife. Plus, there aren't the typical Windows problems associated with PC's, like viruses, spyware etc. If you have a question mark when you try and use an application, it's either been moved or trashed. Have you emptied your trash? If not, open the trash and see if it's gotten in there somehow. If it's not in the trash, try using spotlight to find it. If none of that works, it must have been deleted somehow. I've never seen that happen though, certainly not a common occurance. My guess is, you can reinstall it from the disks that came with your computer. How long have you had your Mac? I'm actually surprised you're having trouble with yours. Have you called Applecare? Maybe they can help. Their customer service is usually very good. You mentioned the mouse is loose, that can't be right, so it sounds like it's worth a trip to the Apple Store. You should call and make an appointment with a Mac Genius before you go, in case the store is crowded (as it usually is). (973) 467-4890 or http://genius.apple.com/customer/?store=R043 |

Sounds like user error to me. If it's giving you that many problems...and its under 1 week old...take it back to the store and theyll exchange it. additionally....how can a trackpad mouse be "loose"

yeah, the trackpad should NOT be loose, that needs to be repaired or replaced. Glock, have a great year back at school. I wanted to come to the party, but something came up. Hope you all had a good time. |

hasn't been under a week, but I'll take it, nonetheless. um, how can electrical problems and hardware issues be user error? I'm pretty experienced with computers (which is why I thought a macbook pro'd be good for me). no, I didn't delete photobooth. I called applecare, they weren't much help, they basically just told me to go into the store. the trackpad isn't loose, the button you actually press is... it's all creaky and out of place, physically... like, hardware. I'll probably take it in tomorrow. I don't go to Short Hills, I go to the one on 5th and 59th.. no idea what store # that is, but I can figure that one out. thanks!! |
