Spiral Frog http://www.spiralfrog.com/press_release.aspx#sept06 Free music downloads if you watch an advertisement. Kind of along the lines of how Salon lets you read content if you watch an ad. via http://journal.davidbyrne.com/2006/09/the_empire_figh.html |

Only time will tell, we'll have to wait until December (or later).

Spiral Frog I don't believe will be successful because you still don't own the music. It's only on loan to you and you can only use it for a given amount of time before it stops working (expires) -- I think they were discussing 6 months. Personally, I'd just as soon never have music files that will stop working. I can barely manage the files that I have now, and they all work. |

As much as I hate the idea of these subscription services, for the reason you cite, I suspect they'll end up being a billion dollar industry. The way to make money is with repeat customers, and the best way to get them is for them to subscribe to a service rather than buying products.

I don't know, but Monster has a playlist there. Maybe they have their servers grab the songs off of P2P when requested, then make a connection that transfers the song to the client, essentially never keeping the song on their servers, basically a P2P instant music player. I would assume that they only keep your playlist and not the songs on the servers. Apparently they have a lot of popups, but I never saw them, guess that's how they pay some of their bills. |

That site doesn't let me save songs. I logged in. But it tells me to register. But I don't see any way to register. If I enter my email and password that I set up it logs me in but it still won't let me save songs. Are you guys able to register and save songs? |

Don’t waste your time with music that is tied to a time window. Check out www.easynews.com . For only $10 and a download limit of 10Gb per month .. And if you don't use the 10Gb you can carry the unused amount over to the next month. Mostly mp3 content but you occasionally get flac files or other higher end loss less audio codec - not a big fan of the MP3 quality but you can't beat the convenience. |
