Computer help needed.

Does anyone know how to contact enigmabomb? I haven’t seen him post recently. I sent a PrivatLine, however, that does not always result in a reply.

A MOL’er called me with a computer problem and needs help. I don’t have the time.

Two year old Dell. Will no longer connect to Comcast cable. Comcast has checked out the line and all works well when a laptop is connected.

The homeowner has worked with Dell support and is working the Virus track. With Dell’s help has attempted to restore the system from the Original Dell set-up CD. From our discussion it is not clear that that was successful. Not sure if the drivers are working or if the Comcast application is functional. Help will be need to purchase and load Virus software.

At the this point the MOL’er has run out of time to tinker and is looking to purchase some local help.

Any one know how to track down enigmabomb?

In a past posting, enigmabomb listed his home phone number as 973.762.5488.

I have never called it but I hope this helps.

If they're "working the virus track," does that mean a virus was found on the system?

If you can't reach enigmabomb or he can't help, let us know and provide some details (exactly what does or doesn't happen, full text of any error messages, what operating system is being used, etc.)

Gosh - we have a 2 year old Dell and our ISP Comcast. We have also had some connectivity problems a year ago but it the "economical" connectors the electrician used. What worries me is my Norton Anti-virus has picked up 3 virus attempts in the last 2 days. I'm no techie though.

kmk - Obviously the occasional problem is not the same as not being able to get on at all, ever. The system does experience outages from time to time; I've gone a day or more without Internet access a few times. I also had one of the old Motorola modems fry on me.

If your Norton Antivirus has picked up 3 attempts then it sounds like it's doing its job, but you have to do yours too. The most common delivery method for viruses these days is e-mail attachments, so just use some common sense and don't open ANYTHING you're not expecting, even if it's from a friend. And keep those virus definitions up to date!

Mwsilva, that phone number did not work. It must be out of date.

#9, I posted for a 3rd party that called me and can't connect to MOL to ask questions. I reported only what I learned during our short call.

All, Enigmabomb responded to my PrivateLine. I have put the two parties together and it sounds like the problem is right up the alley for enigmabomb to help resolve.

Thank you MOL!

Thanks for the info #9dream. We also fried a Cybersurfer modem by Motorola I believe. The tech at Comcast happened to ask which modem we were using only AFTER 3 hours of trying to find out what was wrong. Once the name "cybersurfer" was mentioned he a technician out immediately.

Howdy everyone.

I am working with this person to get them back up and running. Something hosed the network settings pretty bad. Bad enough I deemed it worthy of a format. I should have them back up and running by tonight (Hopefully =) ) I am always available to do computer help and the like. My fee is 20 dollars an hour. I have plenty of references. For future reference, I can be reached at 973.715.4298. I am sorry I can't frequent the board more, real life is getting in the way more than it used to. Something about college, and school and obligations.

Thanks, Hope everyone has been well.

Howdy enigmabob and pleased to make your acquaintance. The others may mutter things under their breath at me for this, but you're lowballing yourself at $20 an hour. I once offered to do a job at $25 an hour, and got passed over for someone who wanted twice as much. I guess they figured the $50 guy had to be smarter, LOL.
