I have a business idea that would require a particular domain name. I did a search and found out that the domain is not available, but there is currently no website set up under that name. How do I find out who owns the domain name? I want to figure out what that person is up to. Thanks. |

There are lots of different resources, but two you may want to consider are:
"Whois" search: You have to type in the exact domain name, with the .com, .org, or whatever.
"Namedroppers.com" search: Type in one or more words, and it will tell you if there are domain names with those words, or if they're available.

If you type the full name into the "Whois" search, it should tell you who the name is registered to, and who is the administrative contact. For example, typing in "dubyadubyadubya.com" (to pick a random domain name) tells you that it's registered to Ian Bruce of Laguna Niguel, CA, and it even gives you a phone number. |
