Ok, can someone explain to me why the search engine does not work when searching all topics or the attic? I really think this functionality needs to be added at some point. |

In my experience, the search is too large and times out. As a test, go into the attic and find something, anything. Then search for exactly that. You will find it. Now expand the search a little big and you will still find it. But searching blind for something like "french drain" in the attic will just time out. Soooooo find a way to limit the search. Perhaps others have a better way, this is just my experience. (I liked the old search engine much better) |

Maybe I'm just blind, but I went to perform a Search and there was nowhere to type in what I was searching for. Anyone? |

I just had the same problem as Ffof - Dave is there something wrong with the search engine or is it us?

Due to server load issues we had to remove it for the time being. The size of searchable text has simply grown too large to search in an effective manner (approaching 1 GB). The only option available at the moment was either to delete the Attic section or disable search. |

Here's an announcement that's going to make me the most popular person in all of the Tech Support topic. I've decided to put off important medical procedures, vacations, lawn care, doing work for paying clients* and attention to personal hygene in order to purchase and set up a new, more powerful server so we can bring the search function back. It will likely be online by the end of next week, if not sooner. * Except for those of you reading this. You're different and you know that. |

Dave, Does the new server expense come out of your own pocket? Does the ad revenue cover the expense? Since your not asking for contributions from MOL users, I assume you got it covered. Otherwise let us know and may be we can get a donation fund going. |

Dave, First, thanx for the search feature back! You can take a shower now. Questions, I find that I can not search the Attic. By design or am I doing something dumb? If I just pop into the Attic and do a manual look and see. I have to re-login as I enter, and everytime I want to open a thread. Again, am I doing something dumb? Thanx! |

No luck searching the Attic. I'm checking off 'Search by Keyword' I'm searching for 'notehead' to look over some of my old posts I'm not touching 'Keyword Options' I'm looking for 'Whole Words Only' Leaving 'Case Insensitive' Looking in 'Names of Authors' Search Topic 'The Attic' I click the Search button, and in about a second I get a page giving me 0 results. Is anything going on, or should I try some other way? Thanks! |

Worked for me. The only difference is that I used "Notehead" rather than "notehead". Not sure why. |

Okay, I want to search for a post that I vaguely recall... but I can't quite remember the poster's name. He was pretty active in 2002, I think. Generally a left-winger. His screen name was the name of some fairly well-known judge. And I recall he irked a lot of people when he showed up on MOL and mentioned in quite a few posts how smart he thought he was. And I think he said he was a lawyer. Anybody remember that guy? |
