I have recently had trouble with author searching on my own username. I do this from time to time when I am trying to locate a thread to which I had previously posted. Sometimes it works, but sometimes nothing seems to happen. Since I have quite a lot of posts, I'm wondering if it is just bogging down. Is there any possibility of adding a date restriction on these searches (such as a combination of the "last x days" with the keyword) to reduce the number of "hits"? Or would that not help?

I've also had problems with author search recently - it seems to stall. I was looking for a message by a specific poster, who posts a lot.

The search only returns the first 100 results, so try to refine it. If there are waaay too many hits, the search times out after 60 seconds. Limit the areas of the search as much as possible (eg. rather than searching entire board, search "education" area only, then "soapbox" only, etc.). Searching the entire board with a common term or verbose poster will probably time out.

Thanks, Dave. I found what I was looking for.

Dave - I guess that is what I was trying to ask. How do you limit an author search? Can you also enter the time frame down below? (I always thought they were two separate searches.) I guess you can't limit it with a keyword, since that is the same search field already taken up with the author's name.

Yes, you have to search by keyword(s) or author. You can limit by date (last days/hours), too. And by section of the board.
