Lastnight, at 10:22, I clicked yes to an Icon that told me that a Windows update had finished loading and was ready to install. I am sure that this came from MS Update loader as the same thing happened on my Laptop eariler.

Following the install and re-boot, I get the message that VPN-1 Secure Client: Windows Sockets initialzation failed. The only option I have is to click OK.

Following that my access to AOL fails.

Question.

How do I re-boot, and bring back a version prior to the 10:22 installation?

BTW, all worked well with the Laptop update, just the desktop PC failed.

Thanx

You can always do a system restore to an earlier point. That should get the job done.

I hate it when a dialog box that brings bad news asks me to say OK. It's not OK!

There was a program called xview, which, when it encountered a problem, gave a pop-up, and the button said "Bummer".

Shauna mc,

How do you do a restore to an earlier point. I did it once with directions over the phone.

But, that was a long time ago, and I can't find the area that allowed me to pick a version to restore to.

Help,
George

George:

At least you have a version of windows which saves prior settings.

Did you try uninstalling and reinstalling AOL? That may help. If you want to go back to an earlier saved version of windows, you might look in your owner's manual for guidance or try on line help (using your lap top internet connection).

Good Luck. Things like this can be really frustrating.

Try this,

Log in as the Admin.
Start, All programs, Accessories, System tools, System Restore.

Click, Restore to an earlier time.
Select the date and time you wish to restore to.
Follow the directions.

With XP it is pretty simple.

Joan, thanx for the suggestion, but I never made it to the web search.

Mwsilva, thanx for the directions! They work exactly as I had hoped and have restored my system to the status prior to loading the MS update.

Again, Thanx!
