I've all ready discussed this with Jamie but, I thought I'd throw the question out to others too to see if anyone has any good advise. We want to be able to broadcast live music and video of a performance over the web (needless to say) at a reasonable price. I'm sure there are quality/price trade-offs but I'm just into investigating what they are right now. Anyone have the inside scoop on this? Thanks, Curt

There are expensive packages you can buy (e.g. realone server) for streaming, or you can use something like ShoutCast, which is a low end tool for streaming audio (not sure about video). Check out http://www.shoutcast.com. Though it looks like you can only stream pre-recorded audio, there are ways to do live audio streaming as well. Streaming video over the Internet (as opposed to internally within a company) is a pretty high bandwidth app, even for a hosting company. You might want to check with your upstream provider to see if they have any possible solutions. Hmm.. just found this while doing a web search... http://www.thebook.com/realaudio.html Looks like they will do hosting, and you can do some amount of streaming free, depending on the bitrate and number of concurrent connections. |
