we bought our home computer from Dell in 2001 -- it has Windows ME and is always having problems. I bought an ipod yesterday and it needs either XP or Windows 2000. What do I do? I really don't want to buy a whole new computer when the only thing we do at home is go on Maplewoodonline or Roto World but an upgrade is about $300, yes? and a new Dell with a flat screen is $499. Please, I need HELP! |

You can buy the upgrade to Windows XP Home for around $95. Pop in the CD and it should guide you through the mostly painless upgrade process. You should be able to upgrade Windows ME without having to do a "clean install" (formatting the hard drive and starting from scratch). So you won't lose your settings/files and you won't have to re-install other programs. I'd suggest backing up your personal files though. This page has some good info on the upgrade process: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;306824 (you might have to copy/paste the URL, since the semicolons seem to confuse things)

alg, do yourself a favor and upgrade to XP. ME was one of the worst windows releases ever. |
