I want to post my availability as a computer consultant in the classifieds. I don't find any categories for labor. I only find them for merchandise. |

Tom, your talents and expertise may not be included in the newly configured classifieds The FSBO entrepreneurs among MOLers seems to have been given the shaft! I asked why in another thread a few days ago, but have not yet received a reply. I sent numerous pictures of my cat into outer space in my pathetic efforts in figuring out how to post photos. Never did post the cat, but finally, got two pixs of our house posted! My thrill was short-lived, however. Within a day, my posts disappeared! Now I know real estate firms have all the power, offices, multiple listing services, etc, etc., do they really need to post their offerings on our website too, to the exclusion of FSBO efforts? All the realtors have websites of their own. (Incidentally, a lot of the houses posted on the new listing were sold years ago!) Will we be denied posting our autos next, our garage sales? At the very least, Dave should have given us a heads-up and, perhaps, suggested an alternative, such as paid classifieds. |

mtierney, I have faith that this is just a glitch that Dave and Jamie will straighten out. I also have faith that their aim is to serve us well, as they always do. The fact that there are occasional small problems isn't a sign of any bad intention, to my eyes. I'm sure there will be an explanation and a remedy soon enough. |

Questions about listing homes for sale and other things to do with classifieds should go to webmaster@maplewoodonline.com. |

Tom: The help wanted and employment wanted ads are accessed from the MOL Home Page. While most of the postings are for nanny and baby sitter jobs, some of the positions are for more professional positions. Also, you can and should post your resume in the Work section of this board. There it can be seen by other people in your field who frequent the board and may have some leads for you. Best of luck with your job search.

Tom, I saw you posted in the Work section - that area makes the most sense probably - we do have help and employment wanted here: http://www.maplewoodonline.com/helpwanted/ I hope to tweak this script in the next couple weeks. As of right now - realtors pay to get listing on Maplewood Online. Most of the paid supporters on the site are realtors. So at this time - we are limiting house listings to paid listings by current advertisers. |

Well, I don't like the changes. I've looked at the new classified listings and am not likely to visit them again. The labor and housing listings were the most interesting ones to me, in truth, and I preferred being able to very quickly scan what is new. It may be that this change is driven by the need to make money from the site, and I'll happily concede that need and wish you luck, but I won't be one of the users of what I've seen there.

Jamie, I have two problems with the MOL help wanted link above. First, the ads don't use MOL user names, so there is more likelyhood of false posts than when people use their ongoing user names (people pretending to be someone else giving themself a glowing recommendation). Second, the response emails are then going to real accounts rather than through the privateline mechanism. Also, is there any link to this from the South Orange side, or are you trying to make them more Maplewood specific than this board? I'm not going to do these as emails to the webmaster, because I'm not the only one interested in the answers. Thanks |

What don't you like about the new classifieds area? Just making sure you're looking at the right area: http://www.maplewoodonline.com/classifiedads/ The way it used to work you couldn't: - Upload an image - Email addresses were not verified - Editing the ads for users is much easier. It is work on my end - I constantly resize images and assist in posting. The house listings section has not changed in the last 3 years - we may add for sale by owner capability in the near future - stay tuned. |

oops - our posts crossed. The classifieds do not use Maplewood Online usernames because it two completely different script languages. If you know how to implement a php/mysql script with the discus message board cgi script - please let me know. I may add a privateline thing there - but it takes more time to set this up - it would have to be a new username/address system - basically the easier you make it to use at first - the more people will use it. The classifieds ads (For sale section) are shared on a couple of sites: http://www.southorangevillage.com/classifiedads/ http://www.westorangenj.net/classifiedads/ http://www.millburn-online.com/classifiedads/ http://www.maplewoodonline.com/classifiedads/ |

Jamie, Thanks for the details. All that I can say is that I'm much less likely to bother to look at the classifieds than when they were on the main board. On the other hand, until I want to sell a house or help someone find a job, it doesn't matter. I'm not a core classifieds user anyway, so don't worry too much about my concerns. |

I also preferred the old format much more. It was much faster to scan entire ads by date. If the new format had an easy ways to sort items by date and automaticlly open the items, it would be efficient. I would be wary of law suits from persons who who received repetitive stress injuries from clicking through the format of these ads |

Dave, can you share with us how your new classifieds system is working? Same amount of hits, submissions, etc? Oh, you mentioned you might add a FSBO area at that site. Any progress? |

Since we put up our latest Classifieds script there has been close to 900 submissions in close to 50 categories! If you would like to ad your house to the listings area: http://www.maplewoodonline.com/realtor/ You need to register, where it says broker put FSBO. I'll probably be redoing this section in the next few weeks. |
